The TruGlo Brite-Site TG231X is a front-and-rear tritium night sight set made for the Springfield XD family, and it does one job extremely well: keeping a usable sight picture when the sun goes down. Instead of relying on batteries or a charge from a flashlight, these use sealed Swiss tritium vials that produce a steady green glow on their own. That means the dots are ready to go whether your pistol has been sitting in a nightstand for a week or riding on your hip all day.
The set pairs a square front sight with a U-notch rear, which is a clean, no-nonsense combination for lining up fast. All three dots glow green, so your eye picks them up quickly in low light without having to hunt for a different colored front. The TG231X covers a wide swath of the lineup, fitting the XD, XD Mod.2, XDM, XDS, and XDE, with the notable exception of the 5.25-inch Competition models. A quick heads-up from experienced installers: XD slides run tight, so a proper sight pusher is the way to go rather than a hammer and punch. Tritium vials do not like being pounded on, so if you are not comfortable pressing them in yourself, handing the slide to a gunsmith is money well spent.
This set is designed for the Springfield XD-series, including the XD, XD Mod.2, XDM, XDS, and XDE. The one exception is the 5.25-inch Competition Series, which the TG231X will not fit. If you are unsure of your exact model, check your slide cut before ordering.
No. The green glow comes from sealed Swiss tritium vials, which self-illuminate around the clock without any batteries, charging, or exposure to light beforehand. That is a big advantage for a carry or nightstand gun that might sit untouched for long stretches.
These are drop-in dovetail sights, but XD slides are known to run tight. Experienced installers strongly recommend using a proper sight pusher rather than tapping them in with a hammer and punch, since impact can damage the tritium vials. If you do not have a sight pusher, a gunsmith can knock the job out quickly and correctly.
In most cases, yes. The Brite-Site sights keep a slim, snag-resistant profile close to factory dimensions, so they are compatible with most standard IWB and OWB holsters. You should not need to buy a specialized holster just to run them.
