Description

There's a good reason single action revolvers never went out of style, and this Taylor's & Company 1873 makes owning one easier on the wallet every time you hit the range. Built by Pietta in Italy and chambered in 9mm Luger, it keeps the look, feel, and four-click charm of the original 1873 pattern while running the most affordable and available centerfire cartridge out there. No hunting down .45 Colt or paying premium prices per box. Just grab whatever 9mm you already feed your other pistols and go make some noise.

Old West Character, Modern Chambering

The details on this one are done right. The steel frame wears genuine color case hardening, set off by a blued 5.5 inch round barrel, blued backstrap and trigger guard, and a half fluted blued cylinder. Two-piece black checkered Navy-size grips round out the period-correct look and give smaller and medium hands a comfortable hold. Sights are traditional as well, with a fixed blade up front and a notch milled into the frame at the rear. The firing pin rides on the hammer just like the originals, and a manual cylinder pin safety is built in.

Shooting the Taylor's 1873 TC9

Since 9mm headspaces on the case mouth, there are no moon clips to fuss with here. Load six, shoot, and the ejector rod punches empties out with authority. Recoil is soft and pleasant, which makes this a great pick for introducing new folks to single actions or just burning through an afternoon of plinking without wearing out your hand or your budget. At 2.5 pounds with an overall length of just over 11 inches, it balances nicely and points the way a Peacemaker-style gun should.

A Pietta 1873 That Earns Its Keep

Whether you're a collector who appreciates the case colors, a cowboy gun fan looking for a low-cost practice piece, or someone who just wants a fun, good-looking wheelgun that shares ammo with everything else in the safe, this 5.5 inch TC9 checks the boxes. Pietta's fit and finish on these has built a solid reputation, and the 9mm chambering means you'll shoot it a lot more than you expected to.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does the Taylor's 1873 TC9 in 9mm require moon clips?

No. The cylinder is machined so the 9mm cartridges headspace on the case mouth, and the traditional ejector rod pushes empties out just like on any 1873-pattern revolver. Load it and shoot it like a standard single action, no clips needed.

Who makes this revolver for Taylor's & Company?

It's manufactured by Pietta in Italy and imported by Taylor's & Company. Pietta has been building 1873-pattern reproductions for decades and has a strong reputation for fit, finish, and reliable actions, including the genuine color case hardening on this model's frame.

Is the 5.5 inch barrel a good choice for this 1873 in 9mm?

The 5.5 inch length is the classic Artillery-style configuration and it balances really well in the hand. It gives you a longer sight radius than the shorter TC9 variants, which helps with accuracy on the range, and 9mm picks up respectable velocity out of it. It's also the length most people picture when they think of a Peacemaker-style sixgun.

What kind of 9mm ammo runs best in the TC9 1873?

Standard brass-cased 9mm Luger is the way to go. Brass extracts smoothly from the chambers, while steel and aluminum cases can be sticky on ejection in revolvers like this. Since it's a revolver, you keep every piece of brass too, which is a nice bonus if you reload.
