The 3-5-7 Magnum Series takes the proven 686 Plus and dresses it up the right way, with an unfluted cylinder, satin stainless finish, and custom black and silver wood grips with the 357 emblem worked into the panels. This is the 5-inch version, and plenty of wheelgun people will tell you that barrel length is the sweet spot for a .357 Magnum. You get more sight radius and velocity than a 4-inch gun without the holster awkwardness of a 6 or 7-inch barrel, which makes it a natural pick for the range, the trail, or handgun hunting inside reasonable distances.
Smith & Wesson designed the L-Frame specifically to handle continuous magnum use, and the 686 has been proving that point since the early 1980s.
