Description

Griffin Armament has been refining the Recce line since 2012, and the Recce 5 AM (MOD 7) is the biggest leap the series has taken yet. Instead of the welded baffle stacks of earlier generations, this one is built around a solid core printed from Griffin's proprietary Nickel 625X superalloy using DMLS additive manufacturing. That material runs roughly 68 percent stronger than printed Inconel 625 at high temperature, which is a fancy way of saying this can shrugs off heat and hard use that would wear down lesser suppressors. Griffin builds these in house at their Watertown, Wisconsin facility, and the company itself was founded by a pair of combat veteran brothers who know what duty gear needs to survive.

What the Recce 5 AM Brings to Your 5.56 Rifle

Beyond raw toughness, the MOD 7 generation carries the latest ECO-FLOW AM baffle tech, tuned to prioritize sound and flash reduction. Griffin rates this as the best performing Recce 5 to date on both counts, and the integrated flash hiding end cap does real work in low light, knocking down first round flash instead of throwing a fireball like flat cap designs tend to do. At 14.5 ounces with a 1.50 inch body, it keeps a trim profile that handles well on carbines without turning your rifle into a boat anchor. There are no barrel length restrictions either, so short guns are fair game, though longer barrels will always stretch service life.

Mounting the Recce 5 AM Without the Headache

Griffin includes a Taper Mount EZ-Brake in 1/2×28 right in the box, and no timing or shim kit is needed to install it. The Taper Mount-RI system indexes quickly, locks up solid, and returns to the same spot every time, which is why the point of impact shift stays minimal and repeatable. It is also backward compatible with Griffin's earlier taper mount muzzle devices, so if you already run their brakes or flash hiders on other rifles, this can moves between hosts in seconds. The Flat Dark Earth finish rounds it out nicely on FDE and camo builds.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does the Recce 5 AM come with a mount, or do I need to buy one separately?

It ships with a Griffin Taper Mount EZ-Brake in 1/2×28 thread, so it is ready to run on standard threaded 5.56 barrels right out of the box. No timing, shims, or crush washers are needed to install the brake. If you want to move the can between rifles, extra taper mount devices are sold separately.

Will the Recce 5 AM work with my older Griffin taper mount muzzle devices?

Yes. The Taper Mount-RI system on the MOD 7 is backward compatible with Griffin's earlier taper mount brakes and flash hiders. That makes it easy to set up several hosts and swap the suppressor between them without losing the repeatable point of impact the taper mount interface is known for.

Can I run the Recce 5 AM on a short barreled 5.56?

You can. Griffin puts no minimum barrel length restrictions on Recce suppressors for rifle calibers, so short uppers and pistols in 5.56 are on the table. Just keep in mind that longer barrels are easier on any suppressor and will stretch out its service life.

What makes the MOD 7 Recce 5 AM different from earlier Recce 5 models?

The big change is construction. Instead of welded stainless baffles, the AM version has a solid core 3D printed from Griffin's Nickel 625X superalloy, which is significantly stronger at high temperatures than printed Inconel 625. Griffin also states this generation delivers the best sound and flash reduction of any Recce 5 so far.
