The Citori name has been earning its keep on clays courses for close to fifty years, and the 825 Sporting is the most refined version yet. This one wears 30-inch matte blued barrels over a low-profile silver nitride receiver with fresh engraving, and the whole package builds on the same full-width hinge pin and tapered locking lug design that traces back to John Browning's B25 Superposed. That tapered lug self-adjusts for wear, so lockup stays tight through tens of thousands of rounds, which is exactly what you want in a gun you plan to shoot every weekend.
The headline feature here is the adjustable comb on that Grade III/IV black walnut stock. A single bolt lets you dial in both cast and drop until you see that perfect figure-eight picture stacking the ivory mid-bead under the HiViz Pro-Comp fiber optic up front. Pair that with the Triple Trigger System, which includes three interchangeable trigger shoes to fine-tune reach, and a close radius pistol grip with palm swell, and you can set this gun up to fit like it was measured for you. The gloss oil finish on the wood is a genuinely nice touch at this grade, and the Inflex II recoil pad has a smooth heel that mounts clean without grabbing your vest.
Browning's Fire Lite 2 mechanical trigger breaks light and crisp, and since it doesn't rely on recoil to set the second barrel, it runs reliably with soft target loads. Back-bored barrels and the extended Invector-DS choke system tighten up patterns and take some sting out of recoil, and you get five chokes in the box: Full, Improved Modified, Modified, Improved Cylinder, and Skeet. Ventilated top and side ribs shed heat on long summer days at the course.
With a 50/50 point of impact and a trim 7 pound 11 ounce heft, the 825 Sporting handles crossing pairs and flushing birds with equal confidence. It is a competition gun first, but nobody would blame you for carrying it through a pheasant field come fall.
It uses a simple one-bolt adjustment that lets you change both drop and cast without any special tools or hardware kits. That means you can raise or shift the comb until your eye lines up dead center down the rib with the classic figure-eight bead picture. Once it's set, it stays put round after round.
It's built as a sporting clays and skeet gun, but the 50/50 point of impact makes it a legitimate wingshooting option too. Plenty of folks run one gun for weekend clays and fall bird hunts, and the 3-inch chrome-plated chambers give you flexibility on loads. At 7 pounds 11 ounces it carries fine for a walk through the uplands.
The Fire Lite 2 is a mechanical trigger rather than inertia-driven, so the second barrel fires reliably even with very light target loads that might not generate enough recoil to reset an inertia system. It also delivers lighter, crisper pull weights than previous Citori triggers. Combined with the three included trigger shoes, you can tune both feel and trigger reach.
You get five extended Invector-DS chokes in the box: Full, Improved Modified, Modified, Improved Cylinder, and Skeet, plus a wrench. The Invector-DS system is widely supported, so aftermarket and additional Browning constrictions are easy to find. The extended design lets you swap chokes quickly between stations without tools.
