Some over/unders are built for the clays course, others for the field. The Citori CXS is Browning's answer for the shooter who refuses to pick a side. Its 50/50 point of impact means the gun shoots flat and predictable whether you are breaking crossers at the sporting club or swinging on a flushing rooster, and the 30 inch lightweight profile barrels give you a long, smooth sighting plane without feeling nose heavy in a 20 gauge frame. A flat floating rib with ventilated top and side ribs, plus ivory front and mid bead sights, keeps your eye locked where it should be.
Underneath the polish, this is the same Citori action that has earned its reputation over decades: a full width tapered locking bolt, a hinge pin that runs the entire width of the receiver, and chrome plated chambers built to shrug off thousands of rounds. Browning added the good stuff from their target line too. Vector Pro lengthened forcing cones and back-bored barrels help smooth out patterns and take some edge off recoil, and the Triple Trigger System lets you swap trigger shoes to fine tune your reach. Three extended Midas grade Invector-Plus chokes in Full, Modified, and Improved Cylinder come in the box, covering everything from skeet distances to late season birds.
The Grade II American walnut stock wears a gloss finish and pairs nicely with the high polish blued receiver and its gold CXS logo. Fit and finish is where the Citori line has always separated itself, with tight wood to metal junctions and action parts hand fitted the old fashioned way. An Inflex recoil pad caps the stock, and the 3 inch chambers give you flexibility on shell selection when you head afield.
A 20 gauge with 30 inch tubes is a sweet spot a lot of folks overlook. You get target gun balance and swing with upland gun weight and carry. If you want one break action that does double duty without compromise, this is the one we point people toward.
Both, and that is the whole point of this model. The CXS is dimensioned like a target gun with a 50/50 point of impact, so it shoots flat and consistent on sporting clays and skeet, but it is light enough in 20 gauge to carry all day in the uplands. It is one of the few over/unders that genuinely pulls double duty without feeling like a compromise.
It ships with three extended Midas grade Invector-Plus choke tubes: Full, Modified, and Improved Cylinder. The extended design makes hand swaps quick between stations or hunts. Since it uses the Invector-Plus system, there is a huge aftermarket of additional constrictions if you want to fill out your set.
Not on this gun. The barrels use a lightweight profile, so the extra length adds a longer sighting plane and smoother swing without making it feel sluggish. Plenty of upland hunters prefer the 30 inch CXS because the momentum helps with follow through on crossing birds.
Yes, both barrels have 3 inch chambers, so it handles everything from light 2 3/4 inch target loads up to 3 inch hunting loads. The chrome plated chambers and Vector Pro forcing cones are built to handle high round counts, and back-boring helps tame recoil with heavier shells.
