The Buck Mark Practical runs reliably on standard velocity and high-velocity .22 LR loads. CCI Standard Velocity and similar quality rimfire ammunition tends to cycle cleanly and shoot accurately. Like most semi-auto .22 LR pistols, it can be pickier with very low-powered or bulk plinking ammo, so it's worth trying a few brands to find what feeds and functions best in your specific pistol.
It's one of the better options out there for learning the fundamentals. The .22 LR cartridge produces very little recoil, the single-action trigger is crisp and consistent, and the included red dot makes sight alignment much easier for beginners.
