There's a good story behind this one. Savage went head to head with John Browning in the Army pistol trials back in 1911 and came up short. Over a century later they came back around and built the design that beat them, and they didn't cut corners doing it. The frame and slide are forged stainless steel, the whole gun wears a black nitride finish that stands up to holster wear and sweat, and the 5-inch stainless barrel is machined from billet with an 11 degree target crown for accuracy that holds up past the 25 yard line.
Plenty of 1911s look the part. This one backs it up with the internals. The sear and disconnector are fully machined tool steel, the hammer is stainless, and the firing pin is nitride-coated titanium for faster lock time. The ejection port is lowered, flared, and cut for live round ejection, so clearing the chamber is clean and snag-free. A dual recoil spring system smooths out the cycle, and in 9mm this full-size steel gun shoots soft enough to run all afternoon without your hands complaining.
Savage skipped the bargain-bin furniture. You get a Novak Lo-Mount adjustable tritium bar rear sight paired with a tritium Mega Dot Glow Dome yellow front, so your sight picture works in daylight and after dark. VZ G10 grips give you real texture that locks into your hand without chewing it up. The integral Picatinny rail under the dust cover takes a light or laser for home defense duty, which is something traditional Government models can't offer.

Yes. It comes from the factory with a Novak Lo-Mount adjustable rear sight with tritium bars and a tritium Mega Dot Glow Dome yellow front sight. That gives you a bright, easy-to-pick-up sight picture in daylight and a glowing reference in low light without needing any upgrades out of the box.
You can. This version of the Savage 1911 Government has an integral Picatinny rail on the dust cover, so it accepts most common pistol lights and lasers. If you plan to holster it with a light attached, just make sure you pick a holster molded for a railed Government 1911 with your specific light.
It ships with two single-stack 10-round magazines, giving you 10+1 total capacity with one in the chamber. Since it uses a standard Government-length 9mm single-stack pattern, spare 1911 9mm magazines are easy to find when you want to stock up for range sessions.
Very much so. The all-steel Government frame soaks up the already mild 9mm recoil, and the dual recoil spring system smooths the slide cycle even further. It makes for a soft-shooting, quick-recovering pistol that's great for long range days, and 9mm keeps ammo costs well below .45 ACP.
