No, this model (MPN 12437) is the no-thumb-safety version. It relies on a grip safety on the backstrap, which must be fully depressed for the trigger to work, plus a tactile loaded chamber indicator. If you prefer a frame-mounted thumb safety, S&W makes a separate version of the EZ with one.
Each 8-round magazine has a tab on the side connected to the follower, similar to what you see on many .22 LR magazines. You pull the tab down to relieve spring tension and drop rounds in without fighting the spring. It makes loading dramatically easier on the thumbs, especially on the last few rounds.
It carries well for a lot of people. At 6.8 inches long, just over an inch wide, and about 23 ounces, it is slim and light enough for most holster setups while still having enough size to keep 9mm recoil soft. The single-stack grip also makes it comfortable for smaller hands.
