Browning built the 1911-22 to be a genuine rimfire 1911, not just a slide swap on an existing frame. This Black Label Full-Size version is scaled to 85% of the original John Browning design, which keeps the proportions right instead of just bolting a .22 conversion onto a full-size gun. The 4.25-inch barrel is stainless steel with a target crown, mounted in a matte black polymer frame that keeps the whole package light in the hand at right around 14 ounces empty. The slide is matte black and serrated for a solid grip when racking it, and the beavertail grip safety, skeletonized trigger and commander-style hammer all mimic what you'd find on a standard 1911. An extended slide release and ambidextrous thumb safety round out the control layout so your muscle memory carries over without much of a learning curve.
Because the controls, grip angle and general operation mirror a full-size 1911, this pistol works well for teaching new shooters the platform before they move up to centerfire, or for running cheap reps to keep your own trigger control sharp. Grips are black laminate with stippling, and the front strap is checkered for a bit of extra purchase, both details lifted straight from full-size 1911 design language. Overall length lands around 7.5 inches, close enough to a Commander-length gun that most 1911 holsters built for that barrel length will work with a bit of trial and fit. A magazine disconnect keeps the pistol from firing with the mag removed, which is worth knowing about going in since it's a bit different from a lot of traditional 1911s.
