Walther calls it the Performance Duty Pistol, and the name actually means something. The PDP Full-Size was purpose-built from the ground up for modern shooters who want a red-dot-ready platform without having to send their slide out for milling or compromise on trigger quality to get there. The 4.5-inch polygonal-rifled barrel gives you a solid velocity advantage over shorter configurations while keeping the overall package at a manageable 8 inches in length.
The Performance Duty Trigger is one of the biggest talking points on the PDP, and for good reason. It breaks cleanly at around 5 lbs with a short, predictable reset that puts most factory striker triggers to shame. The SuperTerrain slide serrations are another standout feature — rather than being cuts into the slide, they protrude outward, giving you a much more positive grip surface for racking, press checks, and one-handed manipulations. Both front and rear serrations are done this way, and it makes a noticeable difference.
The grip system is fully modular with three interchangeable backstraps so you can dial in the fit for your hand size. The Performance Duty Texture covers the grip panels in a tetrahedron pattern that bites into your palm without being abrasive on skin or clothing. The frame also includes a full-length Picatinny rail for lights and accessories, and the magazine release is reversible for left-handed use. The slide stop lever is ambidextrous as well.
For optics, the slide ships with a cover plate installed and uses Walther's proprietary mounting system with adapter plates to accommodate various red dot footprints. Walther will send you a free optic plate upon request through their website — just know your desired optic footprint before you order. The rear iron sight is adjustable for windage and elevation, so running it irons-only while you sort out your optic setup is totally viable.
This is a pistol that works equally well as a range gun, a home defense setup, or a duty sidearm. It comes with two 18-round magazines, giving you a loaded gun plus a full spare right out of the box.
Yes, the slide comes optic-ready from the factory with a cover plate installed over the proprietary mounting cut. To mount a red dot, you will need an adapter plate that matches your optic's footprint — Walther will provide one free of charge per serial number upon request through their website. Just make sure you know which optic you plan to run before submitting the request, as plates are footprint-specific.
The Performance Duty Trigger on the standard PDP Full-Size breaks at approximately 5 lbs with a short, clean reset. It has a noticeable wall before the break, which makes for a very predictable pull. It is widely regarded as one of the best factory striker-fired triggers available without any modifications.
The PDP was designed with ambidextrous use in mind. The slide stop lever is ambidextrous, and the magazine release is reversible so it can be configured for left-handed operation. The grip itself is also symmetrical, making it a genuinely left-hand-friendly pistol out of the box.
The PDP includes three interchangeable backstraps — small, medium, and large — so you can adjust the grip circumference to fit your hand. Swapping them out is straightforward and does not require tools. This is a feature Walther has carried forward from their earlier P99 and PPQ platforms.
Holster support for the PDP has grown significantly since the platform launched in 2021. Most major manufacturers including Safariland, Alien Gear, Blackhawk, and others produce dedicated PDP holsters. Since the PDP uses a Picatinny rail, if you plan to run a weapon light, make sure the holster is specced for your light as well as the PDP specifically.
The standard PDP Full-Size (this model) comes with the Performance Duty Trigger and two 18-round magazines. The Pro SD variant adds a Dynamic Performance Trigger with reduced takeup, a threaded barrel, an aluminum magwell, and a third magazine. The standard model is the better value for most buyers who are not specifically looking for a suppressor-ready or competition-optimized setup.
