There's a reason the 1911 has stuck around for over a century, and the SW1911 E-Series is a solid example of why. Smith & Wesson took the full-size, all-steel formula and refined it where it counts. The E stands for Enhanced, and that's not just marketing. You get a precision fit trigger, an oversized external extractor, a lowered and flared ejection port for clean brass ejection, and a titanium firing pin. Those are the kinds of touches people used to pay a gunsmith for, and here they come standard from the factory.
The first thing you'll notice picking one up is the texture. The fish scale scalloped serrations on the front and rear of the slide are more than a styling choice, they give your fingers real purchase when racking, even with sweaty or gloved hands. The frontstrap and mainspring housing carry aggressive checkering too, so the gun stays planted in your palm through recoil. The laminate wood E-Series grips against that satin stainless finish make this one of the better looking production 1911s on the shelf, and the contrasting black controls, beavertail grip safety, and extended thumb safety round out a very complete package.
At 39.8 ounces of stainless steel with a 5 inch barrel, this pistol soaks up .45 ACP recoil the way a full-size 1911 should. Follow-up shots come back on target quickly, and the crisp single action trigger makes it easy to shoot tight groups. The white 3-dot sights are simple and fast, with a low profile rear that won't snag. The skeletonized hammer and trigger keep lock time quick and give it that custom-shop look.
Smith & Wesson includes two 8-round magazines in the box, and the whole thing is backed by their lifetime service policy. Whether this is your first 1911 or the latest addition to a growing collection, the E-Series delivers a lot of hand-fit feel in a production gun.
The E stands for Enhanced. Compared to the standard SW1911, this model adds a precision fit trigger, an oversized external extractor, a lowered and flared ejection port, a titanium firing pin, and aggressive texturing on the slide and frame. These are upgrades folks often used to pay a gunsmith to add after the fact.
The E-Series comes with fixed white 3-dot sights, with a white dot front and a low profile carry-style rear. The rear sight sits in a dovetail, so it can be drift adjusted for windage. Since they're dovetailed, swapping in aftermarket sights down the road is also an option.
Very well. At just under 40 ounces of all stainless steel construction, the SW1911 E-Series has enough heft to tame .45 ACP and keep follow-up shots quick. The checkered frontstrap and mainspring housing also help the gun stay locked into your hand shot after shot.
