Stock Glock sights get the job done, but they leave a lot on the table. Trijicon built the HD XR set to fix that, taking everything that made their original HD sights popular and pushing it further for shooters who want a cleaner sight picture and more reach out of a compact carry gun. This set fits the Glock 42, 43, 43X, 43E, and 48 (non-MOS models), and it swaps in a serious low-light aiming system that works whether you're on the range at noon or clearing a dark hallway at 2 a.m.
The front is where these really shine. It uses a thin .122-inch blade ringed in glow-in-the-dark photoluminescent orange paint, so your eye snaps right to it the second you present the pistol. That narrow post also opens up your field of view, which makes it easier to see your target, call your hits, and stretch your effective range compared to a fat factory blade. Behind the paint sits a domed sapphire tritium lamp that Trijicon rates as roughly twice as bright as their standard HD front, giving you a crisp reference point in daylight, dusk, and full dark.
The rear is a subdued U-notch with green tritium, angled and serrated to cut glare and pull your focus forward to that orange front dot. The rear is also steeply hooked, so you can rack the slide one-handed against a belt or holster edge if a hand ever goes down. Three green tritium lamps mean you get a full sight picture in the dark, and Trijicon warranties that tritium for 12 years from the date of manufacture.
The bodies are machined steel with a phosphate finish, so they hold up far better than the plastic irons that ship on a stock Glock. Installation is straightforward if you've done Glock sights before, though a sight pusher and a little thread locker on the front screw make life easier. If you carry or run a small Glock hard, this is a proven, no-nonsense upgrade.
This set is built for small-frame Glocks, specifically the 42, 43, 43X, 43E, and 48. It is not compatible with MOS models, since those use a different sight setup to clear the optic cut. If you run a red dot, you'll want the suppressor-height Bright & Tough sights instead.
The HD XR uses a thinner .122-inch front blade to open up your field of view and improve precision at longer distances. It also features a domed sapphire front lamp that Trijicon rates as roughly twice as bright as the standard HD front sight. The overall goal is faster front-sight pickup and better target identification in any light.
Trijicon warranties the green tritium lamps for 12 years from the date of manufacture. Tritium glow does fade slowly over time, so that window gives you a solid, dependable service life. After that the sights still work fine in daylight thanks to the photoluminescent orange front outline.
If you've swapped Glock sights before, the process is familiar. A sight pusher tool makes the job cleaner and protects your slide, and a dab of thread locker on the front screw is a good idea since it can back out under recoil. Trijicon does recommend professional installation if you're not comfortable doing it yourself.
