Iron sights work, but a plain black post can disappear against dark timber or a shadowed target. The Hi-Viz DOVM-315 fixes that with a fiber optic LitePipe that gathers ambient light and glows, giving you a bright aiming point that's easy to pick up in the woods, on the range, or during those low-light windows around dawn and dusk. It stands 5/16 inch (.315") tall, measured from the bottom of the dovetail to the top of the sight, and drops into any standard 3/8" dovetail front cut.
The base is machined from steel, so it holds up to recoil and hard use without flexing or wearing loose. That matters on a front sight, since it takes abuse every time you're setting up, casing, and uncasing your rifle. The steel build also keeps your sight picture consistent shot after shot, which is exactly what you want when you're chasing accuracy.
This is a universal fit for rimfire and centerfire rifles as well as muzzleloaders that use a 3/8" dovetail, including the traditional Hawken-style setups a lot of black powder shooters run. Because sight height is critical to your point of impact, double-check that the .315" size matches your rear sight and load before you drift it in. Hi-Viz offers this same DOVM series in several heights if you need to fine-tune elevation.
The standout feature here is the interchangeable LitePipe system. The sight ships with red and green .080 diameter LitePipes plus a key to change them, so you can run green for maximum brightness on gloomy days or switch to red when it stands out better against your target and backdrop. Popping them in and out takes seconds, and replacements are cheap and easy to find if one ever wears out or you want to try a new color down the road. Backed by Hi-Viz's limited lifetime warranty on the sight itself.
It's built for any rifle or muzzleloader with a standard 3/8" dovetail front sight cut, covering a wide range of rimfire, centerfire, and black powder guns. Before you order, measure your existing dovetail and confirm it's the 3/8" size. It's also worth checking that the .315" height works with your rear sight and load so your point of impact lines up.
The sight comes with a small key that lets you pop the LitePipe out and slide a new one in. Green tends to be the brightest overall, while red often shows up better against certain targets and backgrounds. The whole swap takes just a few seconds, so you can match the color to your conditions on the fly.
This one is the .315 inch (5/16") height, measured from the bottom of the dovetail to the top of the sight. Hi-Viz makes the same series in several other heights, so the right choice depends on your rear sight and where your rounds are landing. If you're replacing a factory front sight, matching that original height is usually the safest starting point.
The steel base is covered by Hi-Viz's limited lifetime warranty, but the LitePipes themselves are considered a wear item. They typically last for years of normal use, and if one ever fades, breaks, or you just want a different color, replacements are inexpensive and easy to install with the included key.
