Description

There's a reason the Short Stroke Gunfighter shows up on so many cowboy action firing lines. Taylors & Company took a classic Uberti-built single action and reworked the guts with their exclusive short stroke action, which shortens the hammer's travel so you can cock and fire noticeably faster. Add the Taylor Tuned treatment on top of that and you get a trigger set at a crisp 3 pounds, custom hammer and base pin springs, a wire bolt spring, and jig-cut positive angles on the trigger and sear. The result is a hammer and trigger pull that feels closer to custom gunsmith work than a factory revolver.

What Sets the Short Stroke Gunfighter Apart

The 5.5-inch blued barrel wears a widened sight channel and a wider front blade, so your eye picks up the sights quicker when the timer beeps. A low-profile hammer keeps your grip settled and speeds up your thumb work between shots. And where most Cattleman-frame revolvers wear the smaller Navy grip, this one gets the longer, slightly wider Army-size grip in checkered walnut. Folks with bigger hands tend to find it fills the palm better and gives more real estate to control recoil, especially when you step up from .38 Special to full-house .357 Magnum loads.

A Working Gun That Still Looks the Part

None of the performance upgrades came at the expense of good looks. The forged steel frame carries a rich color case hardened finish set against deep blued steel, and the checkered walnut adds a touch of refinement you don't see on plainer single actions. At 2.27 pounds with an 11-inch overall length, it balances nicely in the hand and carries well in a holster all match long.

Chambered in .357 Magnum with a six-round cylinder, it also happily digests .38 Special for affordable practice and softer-shooting match days. Whether you're chasing faster stage times or just want a single action with a truly exceptional trigger for range days, this one earns its spot in the safe.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does the short stroke action on the Gunfighter do?

It's a Taylors exclusive design that reduces how far the hammer travels when you cock it. Less hammer travel means faster follow-up shots and less hand movement between rounds, which is a real advantage in cowboy action matches. Combined with the low-profile hammer, it makes running the gun quickly feel much more natural.

Can the Short Stroke Gunfighter shoot .38 Special?

Yes. Like any revolver chambered in .357 Magnum, it will safely fire .38 Special as well. Most cowboy action competitors run light .38 loads for faster stage times and cheaper practice, then keep .357 Magnum on hand when they want the full experience.

What is the Taylor Tuned action package?

Taylor Tuned models get a hand-fitted action job at Taylors before they ship. That includes custom hammer and base pin springs, a wire bolt spring, and jig-cut positive angles on the trigger and sear, with the trigger pull set at a clean 3 pounds. It's the kind of work many owners would otherwise pay a gunsmith to perform after purchase.

How is the Army grip different from a standard Navy grip?

The Army-size grip is longer and a bit wider than the Navy grip typically found on Cattleman-style frames. It fills larger hands better and gives you more to hold onto, which helps with control when shooting magnum loads. The checkering on this walnut grip also adds traction that smooth grips don't offer.
