Description

There is something about a scaled-down single action that just feels right in the hand, and the Taylor's & Company Stallion nails it. Built by Uberti in Italy, this revolver is a faithful reproduction of the smaller-frame 1873 pattern sixguns, shrunk to roughly 3/4 the size of a full Cattleman. The result is a compact, lively .38 Special that points naturally and carries a lot less heft than a standard-frame single action, without giving up any of the traditional look.

Stallion Craftsmanship the Old Way

The frame is forged steel with a rich case hardened finish, paired with a blued 5.5 inch barrel, blued cylinder, and a steel backstrap and trigger guard. The Navy-size one-piece walnut grip fills the hand nicely for a smaller revolver and gives it that warm, classic appearance you expect from a period-style piece. Under the hood, the frame follows the New Model Cattleman design with a spring-retained cylinder pin, so takedown for cleaning is quick and you will not lose the pin in the grass.

Why the .38 Special Stallion Makes Sense

Chambering matters here. The six-shot cylinder runs .38 Special, one of the most affordable and easy-to-find centerfire revolver cartridges around, and recoil out of this little gun is genuinely pleasant. That combination makes the Stallion a favorite for introducing new or younger folks to centerfire revolvers, and it is just as much fun for experienced hands who want a light, easy-packing sixgun for plinking, trail carry, or a relaxed afternoon of tin cans and paper. The 5.5 inch barrel gives you a longer sight radius than the shorter Stallion variants, which helps squeeze a bit more accuracy out of the traditional fixed blade front and frame notch rear sights.

A Stallion Worth Stabling

Between the forged steel construction, the case colors, and the walnut furniture, this is one of those guns that draws attention every time it comes out of the case. If a full-size single action has always felt like a bit much, the Stallion offers the same experience in a friendlier package.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much smaller is the Stallion than a full-size 1873 single action?

The Stallion is built on a frame that is roughly 3/4 the size of a standard 1873 Cattleman. That means a shorter grip, a lighter overall package, and a gun that handles noticeably quicker than a full-frame single action. It is a great fit for smaller hands or anyone who prefers a more compact revolver.

Who makes the Taylor's & Company Stallion?

The Stallion is manufactured by Uberti in Italy and imported by Taylor's & Company. Uberti has been building quality reproductions of classic American single actions for decades, and the fit, finish, and case coloring on these guns reflect that experience.

Is the Stallion .38 Special a good choice for new or younger revolver users?

It is one of the better options out there for that role. The scaled-down frame fits smaller hands, the .38 Special chambering keeps recoil mild, and the single action operation forces a deliberate, one-shot-at-a-time pace that is great for learning fundamentals. Plenty of experienced folks pick one up for the same reasons and just enjoy how easy it is to shoot.

Can I shoot .357 Magnum in this Stallion revolver?

No, this model is chambered specifically for .38 Special and should only be fed .38 Special ammunition. The good news is that .38 Special is widely available, affordable, and offered in a broad range of loads from light target wadcutters to heavier lead rounds that suit the traditional character of this gun.
