It starts with the proven 608 platform, an all-stainless 8-shot chambered in .357 Magnum and .38 Special +P, then layers on the upgrades competitive revolver folks have been asking for. The heavily scalloped cylinder is not just for looks either. Cutting away that rotating mass lightens and smooths the double action pull, which matters a lot when you are running long strings at speed.
The 6-inch bull barrel carries a full-length underlug that keeps the muzzle planted between shots, and at 51 ounces this revolver soaks up magnum recoil better than most. Up top you get a green Hi-Viz fiber optic front sight paired with a fully adjustable rear, and the rear sight is removable so you can mount an aftermarket optic if your division allows it. The cylinder is cut for moon clips with chamfered charge holes and an extended ejector rod, so reloads are quick and clean under the clock. Taurus even designed the trigger system so you can adjust pull weight without tools, just pull the VZ target grips and tune the mainspring to your liking.
While this one was designed with input from high-level competition folks, it earns its keep outside the sport too. Eight rounds of .357 Magnum in a steady, full-size stainless package makes a serious home defense or trail companion, and the long sight radius makes it a genuinely fun target gun. Yes, with an aftermarket mount. The rear sight is removable, and the frame accepts aftermarket optics mounting plates in its place. Out of the box it comes set up with the adjustable rear sight and green fiber optic front, which covers iron sight divisions just fine.
No, moon clips are optional. The cylinder loads and fires just fine without them, so you can run loose rounds at the range. Moon clips really shine during matches where fast reloads matter, and the chamfered charge holes make dropping them in quick and smooth.
Taurus designed the mainspring to be user adjustable without tools. You simply remove the grips and tune the hammer spring tension to change the pull weight. Just keep in mind that going too light can risk light primer strikes with harder primers, so test your match ammo after adjusting.
Definitely. At 51 ounces with a 6-inch barrel, it is too big for carry, but that weight makes it a soft-shooting home defense or woods gun with 8 rounds of .357 Magnum on tap. It also makes a great range and target revolver, especially with light .38 Special loads.
