Yes. The M&P15 Pistol is chambered for 5.56 NATO, which safely handles both 5.56 and .223 Remington ammunition. The 1:7 twist rate also does a nice job stabilizing heavier bullets, which tend to perform better out of short barrels.
Short 5.56 barrels produce a lot of muzzle blast, and the factory blast diverter redirects that concussion and gas forward, away from you and anyone standing beside you. It makes the pistol noticeably more pleasant on an indoor range. It mounts on standard 1/2×28 threads, so you can swap muzzle devices later if you want.
It runs on standard AR-15 pattern magazines, so compatible mags are everywhere and affordable. One 30-round PMAG comes in the box to get you started. Everything from 10-round to drum-style AR magazines will fit the magwell.
