Most competition pistols need a pile of upgrades before they're match-ready. The Performance Center M&P9 M2.0 Competitor skips all that. Smith & Wesson took the M2.0 Metal's 7075-T6 aluminum frame, added a 5-inch stainless barrel with a 1:10 twist, and machined aggressive lightening cuts into the top and sides of the slide. Trimming weight ahead of the chamber shifts the recoil balance point back toward your hands, which means less muzzle rise and quicker follow-up shots when the timer is running. The two-tone look, with a Tungsten Gray Cerakote frame under a black Armornite stainless slide, does not hurt either.
The flat-face M2.0 trigger is the standout here. The enhanced sear repositions where the trigger bar engages, shortening the pull and speeding up the reset, with a clean break in the neighborhood of 4.75 pounds from the factory. Pair that with the aluminum frame, which takes the flex out of the equation compared to polymer, and the 18-degree grip angle, and you get a pistol that points naturally and shoots flatter than it has any right to at this weight. At 29 ounces unloaded, it settles nicely between hands without feeling like a boat anchor on the belt.
This version ships with four 10-round magazines, a flared magwell for fast, fumble-free reloads, and an oversized reversible mag release that works for lefties too. The slide is cut for optics and the included green fiber optic front sight pairs with a blacked-out serrated rear for a fast, uncluttered sight picture if you'd rather run irons. Four palmswell inserts in S, M, ML, and L let you dial in trigger reach, and the Picatinny rail up front handles a light or a barricade stop. Yes, the slide is cut for red dot optics and the mounting plates and screws come in the box, so most popular pistol optics bolt right on. If you'd rather shoot irons, the green fiber optic front and blacked-out serrated rear give you a clean, fast sight picture without touching a thing.
