The P220 has been SIG's flagship big-bore since the mid 1970s, and this Legion version chambers it in 10mm Auto, a cartridge that finally gives the platform the horsepower to match its reputation. The recipe here is simple: take a proven full-size hammer gun, wrap it in Legion Gray Cerakote over a stainless steel slide and frame, and refine every touchpoint. At 44 ounces with a 5 inch barrel, this pistol has the heft to make full-power 10mm loads feel far more civilized than they do out of lighter polymer guns. That matters if you plan to shoot it a lot, and with a trigger this good, you will.
This is the DA/SA version, running a P-SAIT trigger with a frame-mounted decocker rather than a manual safety. You get the classic SIG manual of arms: a deliberate first double-action pull, then crisp single-action follow-ups. The X-RAY3 day/night sights are some of the best factory irons in the business, with a bright green front dot in daylight and tritium glow after dark. The slide is also cut for a red dot, so you can mount an optic without a trip to a machinist. Front cocking serrations, aggressive front strap checkering, extra checkering under the trigger guard, a solid steel guide rod, and a reduced Elite beavertail round out the upgrades, along with checkered black G10 grips wearing the Legion medallion.
The 10mm chambering makes this a natural for backcountry carry, hog hunting, and anyone who just appreciates a serious cartridge in a serious gun. Eight rounds of 10mm on tap, with 8+1 total capacity and three 8-round steel magazines included, gives you plenty to work with at the range or in the woods. This model (220R5-10-LEGION-R2) is the DA/SA version with a P-SAIT trigger and a frame-mounted decocker instead of a manual safety. SIG makes a separate SAO variant with an ambidextrous thumb safety under a different part number. If you prefer the traditional SIG double-action first shot, this is the one you want.
Yes, this is the optic-ready R2 version, so the slide comes cut from the factory to accept a pistol red dot like the SIG ROMEO series. The X-RAY3 day/night sights are still installed, so you can run irons until you decide on an optic. No gunsmith work needed to add a dot down the road.
Much softer than you might expect. At 44 ounces, this all-metal full-size gun soaks up a lot of the snap that 10mm is known for, so full-power loads stay very manageable. The G10 grips and aggressive checkering also keep the gun planted through recoil, making fast follow-up shots realistic.
