Compensated carry guns have become a real category, but most of them ask you to make a trade-off somewhere. The Rost Martin RM1S Comp doesn't feel like a compromise. It's a subcompact 9mm built from the ground up with an integrated compensator that works as a system: a ported barrel aligned with a vent cut in the nitrocarburized steel slide. That pairing does a noticeably better job of managing muzzle rise than single-cut designs, and the difference is real when you're running follow-up shots under any kind of pressure.
The 3.6-inch crowned, hammer-forged match barrel keeps things accurate, and the flat-face trigger with its extra-short reset makes the gun fast to shoot well. The slide rides low in the hand, the beavertail gives you a high grip naturally, and the Responsive Grip Texture goes deeper than what you'll find on Rost Martin's RM1C, which matters on a shorter grip. Textured index points on both sides of the frame help you plant your thumbs and drive the gun forward rather than just hanging on. Backstraps are modular, so fitting the grip to your hand takes about a minute.
The whole package weighs in at 19.76 ounces with the flush 12-round magazine, which is light enough to disappear under a cover garment. The extended 15-round mag adds a pinky ledge that makes the grip feel more substantial and bumps capacity up for those who want it. Both magazines ship with the gun. The funneled magazine well speeds up reloads, the controls are fully ambidextrous, and there's a Picatinny-style accessory rail up front for a light.
The slide comes cut for RMR-pattern optics and ships with the mounting plate already included, so you're not hunting for hardware before you can run a red dot. Iron sights are steel construction with a white dot front and a serrated black rear, regulated for 124-grain 9mm loads. Anti-glare serrations run along the top of the slide to kill reflections and keep your sight picture clean. A striker status indicator protrudes at the rear of the slide when the pistol is cocked, giving you a quick visual or tactile confirmation of condition.
Rather than just cutting the barrel, Rost Martin uses a matched porting system where a single port in the barrel lines up with a vent cut in the slide. This coordination between the two parts redirects propellant gases upward more efficiently than slide-only cuts, which translates to a noticeably flatter shooting experience. The trade-off is a bit more muzzle flash, especially in low light, which is worth knowing ahead of time.
The slide is cut to the RMR footprint, which is one of the most common mounting patterns in the industry and is compatible with optics like the Trijicon RMR, Holosun 507C, and similar footprint sights. An RMR-pattern mounting plate ships with the pistol, so you can get a red dot mounted without buying additional hardware. Just verify the specific optic you choose lists RMR compatibility.

The RM1S Comp's footprint is close to the Glock 19, and some holsters made for that platform have been reported to fit the RM1S well. That said, the integrated compensator on the barrel can affect fit in holsters designed for standard barrels, so it's worth verifying with the holster maker before ordering. Several holster manufacturers have begun offering RM1S-specific models as the platform grows in popularity.
It can work well in that role. The polymer frame includes a Picatinny-style accessory rail forward of the trigger guard for mounting a compact weapon light, which pairs well with the optic-ready slide for a more complete carry setup. At under 20 ounces unloaded, it carries comfortably for most people even with accessories attached.
The Comp version is essentially the same pistol with the addition of a ported barrel and a corresponding vent cut in the slide that function together as an integrated compensator. Everything else, including the frame, grip features, trigger, sights, and controls, carries over from the standard RM1S. The result is a flatter-shooting gun at the cost of a small increase in muzzle blast and slightly more complex cleaning around the comp cuts.
