Yes, since .454 Casull is a lengthened .45 Colt case, this rifle will chamber and fire .45 Colt as well. It makes for a great low-recoil range option when you don't need full-power loads. Give the chamber a good cleaning after running the shorter .45 Colt cases so the longer Casull rounds keep cycling smoothly.
It is. The R95 has a closed-top receiver with side ejection, similar to the classic Marlin 336 layout, and it comes optics ready. That means you can mount a traditional scope, scout optic, or red dot without ejected brass getting in the way, or stick with the factory buckhorn and drift-adjustable sights.
This is a short-range powerhouse. The .454 Casull drives heavy bullets with a ton of energy, and the 16.5 inch barrel wrings noticeably more velocity out of the cartridge than a revolver can. That makes it a strong pick for hogs, black bear, deer in thick cover, and as a compact protection rifle in bear country.
Full-power .454 loads have some authority, no way around that, but the rifle's weight and the factory recoil pad soak up a lot more than a revolver in the same chambering. Most folks find it very manageable from the shoulder. If you want relaxed practice sessions, .45 Colt loads turn it into a real pussycat.
