There is something about a light 28 gauge over/under that just makes sense in the uplands, and the Rizzini BR110 Light Luxe is a great example of why. Rizzini built this one on a gray anodized light-alloy receiver with internal titanium reinforcement, which is how they keep the weight down without sacrificing the strength you expect from an Italian boxlock. Carry it through a long afternoon of quail or dove hunting and your shoulder will thank you. The receiver wears ornamental scroll engraving with a quail scene on the belly, a nice touch that fits the small-gauge character of the gun.
Under the hood, the BR110 Light Luxe runs proven Rizzini mechanics: a single selective trigger, automatic ejectors, and a manual thumb safety with the barrel selector built in. The 28" barrels are chrome lined with a vent rib and a silver front bead, and the 3" chambers give you flexibility in shell selection. Five flush-fitting, nickel-plated choke tubes let you tighten up for late-season birds or open things up for close flushes over a pointing dog. The 28 gauge itself is a sweet spot, throwing meaningfully better patterns than a .410 while carrying and swinging lighter than most 20 gauges.
The stock and rounded forend are cut from nicely figured Turkish walnut with a hand-rubbed oil finish and crisp 26 lines-per-inch checkering, so it looks the part and stays planted in your hands when the weather turns. The fixed pistol grip keeps your trigger hand consistent shot to shot, and the trim forend suits the scaled proportions of the small-frame receiver.
Rizzini ships the Light Luxe in a fitted ABS hard case with velvet sleeves for the stock and barrels, plus a choke wrench, so it travels as well as it hunts. This is the kind of gun that gets handed down, not traded in. If a quick-handling, genuinely light upland double has been on your list, this one deserves a hard look.
The Light Luxe is the upgraded, lighter version of the standard BR110. It swaps the steel receiver for a gray anodized light-alloy frame with internal titanium reinforcement, which cuts noticeable weight for field carry. It also gets more ornamental engraving and upgraded Turkish walnut, so it dresses nicer while running the same proven Rizzini action.
The sides of the receiver carry an ornamental scroll motif, and the 28 gauge and .410 versions feature a quail scene on the belly of the action. The 12 and 20 gauge versions wear a pheasant scene instead. It is tastefully done and hand finished, not the gaudy stamped look you see on some budget doubles.
It was designed first as an upland bird gun, and that is where it shines, but it handles skeet and casual sporting clays just fine. The 28" barrels give it a smoother swing than shorter field guns, and the five included flush chokes let you set it up for either job. Just keep in mind that very light guns reward a controlled, deliberate swing on longer crossing targets.
It ships with five nickel-plated, flush-fitting choke tubes plus a choke wrench, giving you a full range from open to tight constrictions. Swapping them takes a minute or two at the tailgate. That flexibility lets one gun cover close-flushing quail, passing doves, and clay games without missing a beat.
