Plenty of over/unders look too pretty to drag through a briar patch. The Citori Hunter Grade I is Browning's answer to that problem: all the guts of the Citori line in a gun built to be carried, shouldered, and shot hard season after season. The 26 inch vent rib barrels are chambered for 3 inch shells, and the whole gun wears a gloss blued finish with tasteful gold enhancement on the receiver. It looks sharp without being the kind of shotgun you feel guilty taking into the field.
Underneath the walnut and bluing is the same lockup that earned the Citori its reputation. A full width tapered locking bolt engages the rear barrel lugs, and the hinge pin runs clear across the receiver for strength that holds up to thousands of rounds. Chrome plated chambers shrug off wear from heavy volume shooting, and lengthened forcing cones help smooth pellet transition for more even patterns downrange. The single selective trigger lets you pick which barrel fires first, and automatic ejectors kick out spent hulls while lifting unfired shells for easy removal. A tang safety and silver bead front sight round out the controls.
The stock is Grade I American walnut with a smooth satin finish, capped with Browning's Inflex recoil pad to soften the push of stout 12 gauge loads. At roughly 7 pounds 11 ounces, it carries comfortably on a long walk behind a bird dog but has enough weight to swing smoothly and tame recoil. Browning ships it with three flush Invector-Plus choke tubes in Full, Modified, and Improved Cylinder, so you can go from tight waterfowl patterns to open early season quail work with a quick swap.
With a 50/50 point of impact and quick handling from the 26 inch tubes, this one is right at home on flushing pheasants, doves over a field edge, or a Saturday morning at the skeet range. It is the kind of gun that gets handed down, not traded in.
Yes. The 3 inch chambers accept both 2 3/4 and 3 inch 12 gauge shells, so you can run light target loads at the clays range and step up to heavier hunting loads in the same gun. The chrome plated chambers are built to handle high round counts without excessive wear.
It ships with three flush-fit Invector-Plus choke tubes: Full, Modified, and Improved Cylinder, plus a wrench for swapping them. That trio covers most upland, dove, and clay target situations, and the Invector-Plus system gives you access to a huge range of aftermarket tubes if you want more options later.
For a lot of upland hunters, yes. The shorter barrels make the gun quicker to mount and swing in tight cover, which matters when a grouse or quail flushes at your feet. If you spend more time on pass shooting or longer crossers, the 28 inch version swings a touch smoother, but the 26 inch is a great all-around field length.
Citori shotguns are built for Browning by the Miroku Corporation in Japan, and they have been since the model launched in 1973.
