Turkish gunmakers have been building serious waterfowl guns for years now, and Retay sits near the top of that list. The ACE-R takes the proven inertia-driven formula and adds a few touches you usually only see on guns costing quite a bit more. The Type R receiver has a subtle humpback profile that draws your eye straight down the rib, and the whole gun wears Mossy Oak Bottomland camo from butt pad to muzzle, a pattern that disappears in flooded timber and hardwood bottoms like nothing else.
The heart of this shotgun is Retay's Inertia Plus bolt, which uses a rollover torsion spring to keep the bolt head locked firmly in battery. That solves the classic inertia gun headache of a bolt getting bumped out of battery on a boat ride or a climb into the blind. The 3.5" chamber handles the full spread of 12 gauge ammo, and the factory-lengthened forcing cone helps tighten patterns and smooth out recoil. Speaking of recoil, the AIRY pad uses an internal air pocket design that Retay says cuts felt recoil by up to 30 percent, and after a long morning of magnum steel loads, your shoulder will notice the difference.
The 28" vent-rib barrel gives you a smooth, deliberate swing for ducks and geese, with a TruGlo fiber optic front bead that pops in low timber light. The reversible cross-bolt safety switches over for left-handed use in minutes, the receiver comes drilled and tapped if you want to mount an optic for turkey season, and the removable trigger group drops out at the push of a button for quick cleaning after a muddy hunt. Five MaraPro choke tubes come in the box, covering everything from skeet distances to long crossing shots, and a shim kit lets you tune the 14.5" stock to fit your build. At a hair under 7 pounds, the ACE-R carries easy and shoulders fast, and Retay backs it with a limited lifetime warranty.
Retay tuned the ACE series inertia system to run a wide range of ammo, from light field and target loads up through heavy 3.5" waterfowl magnums. Like most inertia guns, it appreciates a clean action and quality shells, but owners report reliable cycling across the board. If you plan to shoot mostly featherweight loads, give it a quick break-in with standard loads first.
Yes. The receiver comes drilled and tapped from the factory, so you can add a rail or direct-mount base and run an optic for turkey season. The TruGlo fiber optic front bead works great on its own for waterfowl and upland work.
The cross-bolt safety button is reversible, so a lefty can swap it over without a gunsmith. Ejection is still to the right side, but the control layout and shim-adjustable stock make it a comfortable setup for southpaws.
Inertia systems like the one in the ACE-R vent almost no fouling into the action, so they stay cleaner and shrug off mud, grit, and freezing spray better than most gas guns. The trade-off is usually a bit more felt recoil, which is exactly why Retay added the AIRY pad, an air-pocket recoil pad designed to cut felt recoil by up to 30 percent. It is a low-maintenance combination that makes a lot of sense in a duck blind.
