The Maxus II Stalker is what happens when Browning takes an already trusted autoloader and cleans up the details. This version wears an all-business matte black finish that won't flash sunlight at incoming birds, and the black composite stock gets rubber overmolded grip panels on the wrist and forearm so it stays planted when your gloves are soaked and the weather isn't cooperating. Underneath it all is the Power Drive gas system, which cycles everything from light target loads up to heavy 3-inch waterfowl shells while soaking up a noticeable amount of recoil along the way.
Recoil management is where this gun earns its keep. The thick Inflex recoil pad and SoftFlex cheek pad work together to take the bite out of magnum loads, and the gas operation spreads the push out even further. The Lightning trigger carries over from the original Maxus with the fastest lock time of any autoloading shotgun, which translates to fewer birds slipping out of your pattern. Nickel Teflon coating on the bolt, carrier, and controls keeps the action slick and easy to wipe down, and the chrome-lined chamber and bore shrug off steel shot and grime.
The composite stock can be trimmed up to 3/4 inch for length of pull and adjusted for cast and drop with the included shims, so getting a proper fit doesn't require a trip to a stock maker. The oversized bolt handle and bolt release are simple to run with cold or gloved hands, and the TurnKey magazine plug pops out in seconds with a car key when you're done chasing ducks. The 28-inch back-bored vent rib barrel swings smooth and patterns well, with a fiber optic front sight and ivory mid bead up top. Full, Modified, and Improved Cylinder Invector-Plus chokes come standard, along with a hard case to keep it all protected. At around 7.2 pounds, it carries comfortably through a long day in the field.
