The Ruger PC Carbine was built for takedown convenience, and the Magpul PC Backpacker stock takes that idea and runs with it. This is a drop-in replacement that fits all factory 9mm Luger and .40 S&W PC Carbine models, swapping out the standard furniture for a system designed around getting your gun small, secure, and ready to travel. Instead of just splitting the rifle into two loose halves, the Backpacker gives you a way to lock those halves together into one tidy bundle.
The heart of this stock is a locking interface that clamps the barrel assembly directly to the stock body. Break the carbine down like you normally would, slide the breech end into the rear of the stock, and the tabs on the forend engage and hold everything together. The result is a compact package that stashes easily in a pack, a trunk, or a range bag. Folks who own one tend to comment on how fast the process is once you get the hang of it, no drawn-out fiddling required.
Made from Magpul's advanced polymer, the PC Backpacker runs an ergonomic handguard with M-LOK slots at the 3 and 9 o'clock positions, so mounting a light, laser, or sling hardware is straightforward. It comes with interchangeable standard and optic-height cheek risers, letting you dial in a solid cheek weld whether you're running irons or glass. Two storage compartments round it out: a water-resistant one in the grip that's handy for a multi-tool or small survival gear, and a second compartment in the riser section that fits a single pistol magazine up to a PMAG 21 GL9.
At the rear you get an MOE SL non-slip rubber buttpad that soaks up recoil and stays put on the shoulder. If you want a touch more length of pull, it's compatible with the MOE SL Enhanced Rubber Butt-Pad for an extra 3/8 inch. Optional QD sling mounting points let you carry the carbine assembled or broken down, so it works whether you're hiking in or heading to the range. Length of pull sits at 13.75 inches and the whole stock weighs right around 23 ounces.
It's a drop-in fit for all factory Ruger PC Carbine receivers chambered in 9mm Luger and .40 S&W. One thing to know: if your carbine came with a chassis or tubular handguard, it uses a Modular Handguard Mount that needs to be swapped for a standard Takedown Block before the Magpul forend will mount up. Standard factory PC Carbine models install without any extra parts.
After you take the carbine down the normal way, you slide the breech end of the barrel assembly into the rear of the stock. The locking tabs on the forend engage a section on the stock and hold the two halves together as one compact unit. It's quick once you've done it a couple times and makes the whole rifle far shorter than its assembled length for transport.
There are two storage spots. The water-resistant grip compartment is sized for a multi-tool, cleaning gear, or small survival items, while the compartment in the riser section holds a single pistol magazine up to a PMAG 21 GL9. It's a handy way to keep everything with the gun in one package.
Yes. You get interchangeable standard and optic-height cheek risers so you can set up a good cheek weld for irons or an optic, and it ships with an MOE SL non-slip rubber buttpad already installed. If you want a bit more length of pull, it's compatible with the MOE SL Enhanced Rubber Butt-Pad for an added 3/8 inch.
