The Kimber 2K11 answers that with a full-size, double stack 1911 in .45 ACP that holds 13+1 rounds and feeds from an enhanced sub-frame shaped specifically for reliable magazine fit. Kimber ships this one with three 13-round magazines, so you're not hunting down spares before your first range trip.
The heart of this pistol is a 5-inch fluted bull barrel with 5R rifling, finished in a high polish Coyote PVD that stands out against the black DLC-coated stainless steel frame and slide. The GT match grade trigger breaks clean at 3 to 4 pounds, and the skeletonized aluminum shoe keeps that classic 1911 feel intact. Kimber also built in a patent-pending tool-less guide rod, which makes field stripping noticeably easier than a traditional bushing setup. An external extractor, ambidextrous thumb safety, and a beavertail grip safety with memory bump round out the controls.
The slide comes cut with an RMR footprint, and Kimber includes a C&H Precision mounting plate that covers popular Trijicon and Holosun red dots. Until you mount one, the aluminum cover plate has a built-in rear sight that pairs with the TAG Precision FiberLok 2 green front sight, so the iron sight picture is solid on day one. Custom front and rear slide serrations give you plenty of grip for press checks and racking, even with sweaty hands.
At 40.1 ounces with an empty magazine, the 2K11 has the heft to soak up .45 ACP recoil and stay flat through fast strings. The aluminum grip module wears a Stan Chen Customs magwell that funnels reloads home quickly, and the accessory rail up front takes a light or laser without any fuss. Whether you're shooting matches, defending the homestead, or just adding a serious double stack 1911 to the safe, this is one of the most complete packages Kimber has ever put out.
The slide is cut with an RMR footprint, so optics like the Trijicon RMR and SRO mount directly. Kimber also includes a C&H Precision adapter plate that covers popular Trijicon and Holosun red dots. If you run a different optic, aftermarket plates for the RMR footprint are widely available.
It follows the double stack 1911 formula, meaning a steel sub-frame paired with a separate aluminum grip module that houses the wider magazine. You still get the single action trigger, thumb safety, and grip safety that define the 1911, just with 13+1 rounds of .45 ACP instead of the traditional 8. The GT match trigger breaks between 3 and 4 pounds, so the classic feel is very much intact.
Kimber includes three 13-round .45 ACP magazines with this model, which is a generous start compared to most pistols in this class. The sub-frame is shaped for consistent fit with Kimber's own magazines, so we recommend sticking with factory mags for the most reliable feeding.
Easier than most 1911s, thanks to Kimber's patent-pending tool-less guide rod. You won't need a bushing wrench or paper clip trick to get the slide off for routine cleaning. The bushingless bull barrel design keeps reassembly straightforward as well.
