The Heritage 92 Ranch Hand is firmly in that second camp, and there's nothing wrong with that. This is Heritage's take on the mare's leg concept, built on the same John Browning Model 1892 pattern action as their full size 92 rifles, complete with the dual locking bolt design and a side loading gate feeding a tubular magazine that holds six rounds.
The barrel and receiver are alloy steel wearing a black oxide finish, matched up with traditional brown hardwood furniture for that proper western look. The 12 inch barrel runs a 1:30 right hand twist with six grooves, and the whole package comes in around 25 inches overall and roughly five pounds. That's compact enough to stash behind the truck seat or carry around the property without it ever feeling like a burden. Sights are a drift adjustable front paired with an adjustable buckhorn rear, so you can dial it in for your preferred load instead of settling for wherever fixed sights happen to hit. Heritage also added a thumb safety and a firing pin block, a modern touch on an otherwise old school design.
Chambered in .357 Magnum, this pistol also runs .38 Special, which is a big part of the appeal. Load up .38s for cheap, soft shooting plinking sessions, then stoke it with full house .357 when you want some authority on the other end. Out of a 12 inch barrel, the .357 picks up a healthy velocity bump over a revolver, too.

It loads through a side gate on the receiver, feeding a tubular magazine under the barrel that holds six rounds. That's the traditional Model 1892 setup, so you can top off the magazine anytime without opening the action.
They are. It comes with a drift adjustable front sight and an adjustable buckhorn rear, so you can zero it for whichever load you settle on. That's a nice step up from the fixed sights found on a lot of classic style guns.
Very manageable. At roughly five pounds, the Ranch Hand soaks up .357 recoil better than most revolvers, and the 12 inch barrel actually squeezes extra velocity out of the cartridge. With .38 Special it's downright mild and a blast to plink with.
