Description

There's a reason the trapper-style carbine never went out of fashion. Trim a lever gun down to a 16.5-inch barrel and it becomes something you can swing through thick brush, pull from a truck rack, or carry all day without thinking about it. That's exactly what Henry did with the Big Boy Brass Carbine. It keeps the polished hardened brass receiver, octagon blued steel barrel, and select American walnut furniture that made the full-size Big Boy famous, then sheds nearly a pound of barrel weight and drops the overall length to a tidy 35 inches.

Why the .357 Big Boy Carbine Earns Its Keep

Chambered for .357 Magnum and .38 Special, this carbine covers a lot of ground with one gun. Cheap .38s make it a soft-recoiling plinker anyone in the family can enjoy, while full-power .357 loads pick up serious velocity out of the 16.5-inch barrel, enough to handle deer and hogs at woods ranges or serve as a capable home and homestead gun. The tubular magazine holds seven rounds, and this being a Side Gate model, you can top off through the loading gate on the receiver or remove the inner tube the traditional Henry way. Best of both worlds.

Sights, Lever, and the Details That Matter

The fully adjustable semi-buckhorn rear sight with white diamond insert pairs with a brass bead front for a quick, classic sight picture, and the receiver comes drilled and tapped if you'd rather run glass with Henry's BB-RSM mount. The factory large loop lever cycles smoothly even with gloved hands, and the brass buttplate and hand-filled gold barrel rollmarks round out the western styling. At 7.76 pounds with a 14-inch length of pull, it settles into the shoulder nicely and soaks up what little recoil these cartridges produce.

Made in America, Built to Be Used

Like every Henry, this one is made in the USA and backed by a company known for taking care of its customers. It looks like a safe queen, but it's built to get carried, cycled, and shot. Pair it with a .357 revolver and you've got the classic frontier setup running one cartridge for everything.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can the Henry Big Boy Brass Carbine shoot both .357 Magnum and .38 Special?

Yes, and that's a big part of its appeal. The chamber accepts both cartridges interchangeably, so you can run inexpensive, light-recoiling .38 Special for practice and plinking, then load full-power .357 Magnum for hunting or defense. No adjustments or parts changes needed, just feed it whichever you prefer.

Does this Big Boy Carbine have a side loading gate?

It does. The H006GMR is a Side Gate model, so you can top off the 7-round magazine through the gate on the right side of the receiver without taking the gun out of action. It also retains Henry's removable inner magazine tube, which makes unloading at the end of the day quick and easy.

Can I mount a scope on the Henry Big Boy Brass Carbine?

Yes. The brass receiver comes drilled and tapped from the factory, and it accepts Henry's BB-RSM scope mount, which is sold separately. That said, the adjustable semi-buckhorn rear sight and brass bead front are well suited to the practical range of the .357 cartridge, so plenty of owners never bother with glass.

Is the large loop lever practical or just for looks?

A bit of both. It certainly adds to the western character, but the extra room genuinely helps when you're cycling the action with gloves on during cold weather hunts. It also gives larger hands more comfortable purchase for fast follow-up shots.
