Description

Most lever guns tap out around 200 yards. The Long Ranger was built to keep going. Henry took the traditional exposed hammer and forged steel lever, then paired them with a geared action that drives a chromed steel bolt with a six-lug rotary head into a barrel extension. The result is the kind of consistent lockup you'd expect from a bolt action, in a rifle that cycles as fast as your lever hand can move. Chambered in .308 Winchester, it feeds pointed, aerodynamic bullets from a flush-fit 4-round detachable steel magazine, something a tube-fed lever gun simply can't do.

What Makes the Deluxe Engraved Edition Special

The Deluxe treatment starts with the lightweight alloy receiver, plated in highly polished nickel and covered in scroll engraving on both side flats with 24K gold inlay accents. Set against the 20 inch round blued steel barrel and checkered American walnut stock and forend, the two-tone look is genuinely striking in person. This is the rifle that gets picked up first at the counter, and the one that gets handed down later. Underneath the dressed-up exterior, it's the same proven Long Ranger that hunters have been carrying into deer stands and elk country for years.

Setting Up Your Long Ranger Deluxe for the Field

Out of the box you get a folding, fully adjustable rear sight matched with a ramped front sight carrying a .062 inch ivory bead, so you can hunt with irons right away. The receiver comes drilled and tapped, and with a quality scope on top and ammo it likes, this rifle will reach well past 300 yards. A 1:10 twist stabilizes the full range of common .308 bullet weights. Sling swivel studs come installed, a solid black rubber recoil pad takes the sting out of full-power loads, and the transfer bar safety lets you carry with confidence. At 7 pounds and 40.5 inches overall, it carries easily whether you're climbing into a stand or covering ground out west. Like every Henry, it's made in America, built in their Rice Lake, Wisconsin facility.

Frequently Asked Questions

How accurate is the Henry Long Ranger in .308?

This is where the Long Ranger separates itself from traditional lever guns. The geared action locks a six-lug rotary bolt into a barrel extension for consistent lockup, and the barrel is free-floated. With a scope and ammo the rifle likes, shooters commonly report groups in the 1 to 1.5 MOA range at 100 yards, which makes it a legitimate 300 yard hunting rifle.

Can I mount a scope on the Long Ranger Deluxe Engraved?

Yes, the receiver comes drilled and tapped from the factory, and the mounting holes are reinforced for a secure fit. Since the action ejects out the side, you can mount a scope low and centered over the bore. The included iron sights fold out of the way, so you can keep them as a backup.

Why does the Long Ranger use a detachable magazine instead of a tube?

Modern cartridges like .308 Winchester use pointed spitzer bullets, which aren't safe to stack tip-to-primer in a tube magazine. The flush-fit detachable box magazine solves that, letting you run the aerodynamic bullets that give .308 its reach. It also makes loading and unloading quicker, with a release button right on the receiver.

Is the Long Ranger Deluxe too fancy to hunt with?

Not at all. Under the engraving and gold inlay it's mechanically identical to the standard Long Ranger, with the same barrel, action, transfer bar safety, and recoil pad. Plenty of folks buy this version as the rifle they'll hunt with for decades and then pass down. That said, if it ends up spending more time in the safe than the woods, nobody here will judge.
