Description

Smith & Wesson brought the lever gun back in a big way with the 1854 series, and the Stealth Hunter is the version built for people who want to run modern gear on a classic action. The heart of it is a forged 416 stainless steel receiver wearing a durable black Armornite finish, paired with a 16.3 inch threaded barrel cut at 11/16×24 and capped with a thread protector. Screw on a suppressor and the .44 Magnum, which is already pleasant out of a rifle, becomes downright fun. The tube magazine holds 8 rounds of .44 Mag, and it also feeds .44 Special if you want a softer day at the range.

Built to Take an Optic, or Not

The Stealth Hunter ships with a 10.5 inch Picatinny rail up top, giving you room for a red dot, LPVO, scout scope, or even a thermal setup. The included irons are no afterthought either. An adjustable XS ghost ring rear pairs with a bright HIVIZ H3 fiber optic front for quick, clean sight picture in low light, and both co-witness nicely with the right optic mount. A removable hammer spur extension comes in the box so you can still thumb the hammer comfortably with glass mounted.

Handling That Makes Sense in the Field

At 33.4 inches overall and around 6.4 pounds, this rifle carries easily on a long walk into the timber or tucked in a pack. The large loop lever cycles smoothly with or without gloves, the flat faced trigger encourages consistent finger placement, and the black synthetic stock with textured grip panels shrugs off weather that would beat up walnut. An aluminum M-LOK handguard with 15 slots gives you plenty of real estate for a light, sling mount, or bipod, and the removable magazine tube lets you dump rounds without cycling them through the action.

Where the 1854 Stealth Hunter Shines

Deer and hog hunting inside 100 yards, backcountry protection, home defense, or just running steel on a Saturday. Straight wall friendly, suppressor ready, and backed by Smith & Wesson's lifetime service policy, this is the lever action for folks who appreciate the old ways but have no problem upgrading them.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can the S&W 1854 Stealth Hunter shoot .44 Special?

Yes. Like most .44 Magnum rifles, the 1854 Stealth Hunter also runs .44 Special, which makes for a lighter recoiling and cheaper range session. Testing published in the gun press has shown it groups well with both, so you can practice with Specials and hunt with full power Magnums.

Is the barrel threaded for a suppressor?

It is. The 16.3 inch barrel comes threaded at 11/16×24 with a thread protector installed, so it accepts big bore suppressors and muzzle brakes designed for that pattern. A .44 Mag lever gun is already mild on the shoulder, and adding a can makes it one of the more pleasant hunting rifles you'll ever shoot.

Can I mount a scope and still use the iron sights on the 1854 Stealth Hunter?

Yes. The 10.5 inch Picatinny rail gives you plenty of room for a red dot, LPVO, or scout style optic, and the adjustable XS ghost ring rear can be removed or co-witnessed depending on your mount height. Smith & Wesson also includes a removable hammer spur extension so you can still cock the hammer easily with an optic in the way.

How do you unload the magazine tube?

The Stealth Hunter uses a removable magazine tube, so you can pull the tube and dump rounds out the front without cycling every cartridge through the action. If you prefer the traditional method, you can still rack rounds through the chamber the old fashioned way. The tube holds 8 rounds of .44 Magnum.
