Description
Henry built its reputation on one rifle: a .22 lever action so smooth that first-timers swear something must be missing inside. The H1 Western takes that same proven platform and gives it a little more character, swapping the standard straight grip for a checkered pistol-grip American walnut stock that fills the hand and settles into the shoulder with a more relaxed, natural wrist angle. Pair that with an 18.5 inch round blued steel barrel and a black receiver, and you have a rimfire that looks the part of a classic Western saddle gun without pretending to be anything it is not.
Feeding the Henry H1 Western
The tubular magazine runs 15 rounds of .22 LR, and because this rifle is chambered for .22 S/L/LR, it will also swallow 17 Longs or 21 Shorts if you come across them. That flexibility makes it a fun gun to feed, and quiet .22 Shorts through an 18.5 inch barrel are about as backyard-friendly as rimfire shooting gets. Loading is the classic Henry way: twist and pull the inner tube, drop rounds down the port, and slide it back home.
Sights, Optics, and Handling
Out of the box you get an adjustable semi-buckhorn rear sight paired with a hooded blade up front, a setup that works well for plinking cans, punching paper, and picking off squirrels at typical rimfire distances. If your eyes prefer glass, the receiver is grooved for 3/8 inch rimfire rings, so mounting a compact scope takes minutes and no gunsmithing. At 36.5 inches overall and 5.25 pounds, it carries easily on a walk through the woods and comes up quick.
Why the H1 Western Earns Its Keep
The 1:16 twist barrel shoots well with just about any bulk or match .22 LR ammo, the quarter-cock hammer safety keeps the manual of arms simple and traditional, and the whole rifle is made in America. Whether it is a first rifle, a small game companion, or the gun everyone fights over at the range, this Henry does the job with style.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can the Henry H1 Western shoot .22 Short and .22 Long as well as .22 LR?
Yes. The H1 Western is chambered for .22 S/L/LR, so it will cycle all three interchangeably through the tube magazine. Capacity changes with cartridge length, holding 15 rounds of .22 LR, 17 of .22 Long, or 21 of .22 Short.
Can I mount a scope on the Henry H1 Western?
You can. The receiver is grooved for standard 3/8 inch rimfire dovetail rings, so a compact rimfire scope or red dot mounts right up with no drilling or tapping. Most owners keep the optic small and light so the rifle keeps its quick, natural handling.
How is the H1 Western different from the standard Henry Classic H001?
The core action, barrel length, and chambering are the same proven Henry platform. The Western swaps the Classic's smooth straight-grip stock for a checkered American walnut stock with a pistol grip, which gives your firing hand a more relaxed wrist angle and a little extra purchase. It comes down to feel and looks, and plenty of folks prefer the pistol grip once they shoulder one.
How do you load the tubular magazine on this rifle?
Twist and partially withdraw the brass inner magazine tube from the front of the magazine, then drop rounds nose-first into the loading port cut in the outer tube. Once loaded, slide the inner tube back down and lock it in place. It takes a few seconds longer than a box magazine, but it is simple and there are no mags to lose.
