The Recce line has been around since 2012, and there's a reason it keeps showing up on rifles that get used hard. The Recce 5 is the current 5.56 version, and it hits a sweet spot that's tough to find: 14.5 ounces, 6.2 inches long, and roughly 35 dB of sound reduction on a 14.5 inch M4 pattern barrel. That's a lot of performance from a can this size, and it comes down to Griffin's patented ECO-FLOW baffle system, which is tuned to keep the sound signature low both at the muzzle and back at your ear while dialing down the back pressure that makes suppressed ARs so gassy. Less blowback in your face means longer, more comfortable range sessions, plain and simple.
Every component in the Recce 5 is machined from 17-4PH stainless steel and heat treated to H900 for maximum service life, then finished in black high temp coating for corrosion resistance. There's no barrel length restriction to worry about, and it's rated up through 22-250, so it'll handle short barreled 5.56 guns and faster .22 caliber cartridges without complaint. Griffin also built a low profile flash reducer right into the end cap. It only adds a couple tenths of an inch over a flat cap but noticeably knocks down first round flash, which matters if you spend any time behind a rifle in low light.
The attachment interface is Griffin's Taper Mount with the Rapid Index feature, which speeds up mounting considerably compared to earlier versions while staying backward compatible with existing Taper Mount muzzle devices. A 1/2×28 Taper Mount brake comes in the box, so you can thread it on and get to work the same day it comes home. The taper interface locks up tight and gives you minimal, repeatable point of impact shift when you take the can on and off, which is exactly what you want if you rotate one suppressor between a couple of rifles. Griffin's data shows about 35 dB of sound reduction on a 14.5 inch M4 style barrel, which is impressive for a can this compact. The ECO-FLOW baffle system is also tuned to balance sound at the muzzle and at the shooter's ear, so it sounds good from behind the rifle, not just on a meter downrange.
Far less than most traditional baffle designs. The ECO-FLOW system was engineered specifically to reduce back pressure, which cuts down on the gas blown back through the action of semi-autos. You'll notice a cleaner face and a more pleasant shooting experience compared to older high back pressure cans.
