Description
There are a lot of mag fed 12 gauges out there, but the Origin 12 has earned its reputation the hard way, by running fast and staying running. Built around a gas operated, rotating bolt action with clear AK roots, Fostech designed this shotgun from the ground up with proprietary magazines to fix the reliability headaches that plagued Saiga-pattern guns. This Gen 2 version in black nickel takes the platform up a notch with a billet machined carrier, a billet aluminum ambidextrous safety, a billet trigger guard, and an improved, lightened gas system. It also wears Fostech's Tomahawk stock, so it comes out of the case ready to shoulder and shoot.
What Makes the Origin 12 Gen 2 Different
The heart of this shotgun is Fostech's infinite gas system, which lets you dial the gun in for everything from stout buckshot to lighter target loads instead of hoping your ammo happens to agree with a fixed setting. The quick change barrel system means swapping barrels does not require a trip to a gunsmith, and the large ejection port keeps spent hulls moving out of the way. A Picatinny rail up top gives you plenty of real estate for a red dot or optic of your choice.
Threaded Barrel and Real World Setup
The 18.5 inch smooth bore barrel is chambered for 2-3/4 inch shells and threaded M22 x .75-6G at the muzzle, which opens the door to muzzle devices and even the SilencerCo Salvo suppressor with the Saiga adapter. It feeds from a 5 round detachable box magazine, and Fostech offers higher capacity mags plus 20 and 30 round drums separately if you want to turn a range day into an event.
Who the Origin 12 Gen 2 Fits
This one makes sense for home defense duty, three gun style shooting, or anyone who just appreciates a semi auto shotgun that reloads with a mag swap instead of a tube full of shells. The black nickel treatment gives it a distinctive look while the nickel internals keep the action slick. It ships in a hard case with one magazine, so you are set from day one.

Frequently Asked Questions
Will the Origin 12 Gen 2 cycle lighter target loads?
That is one of the big selling points of this platform. Fostech's infinite gas system lets you adjust the gun to run a wide range of 2-3/4 inch 12 gauge loads, from full power buckshot down to lighter fare. Take a few minutes at the range to find the right setting for your ammo and it settles in nicely.
Can I run a suppressor on the Fostech Origin 12?
Yes, the muzzle is threaded M22 x .75-6G and the gun is set up for the SilencerCo Salvo 12. You will need the Saiga adapter from SilencerCo to mount it. The threading also works with compatible muzzle devices if suppressed shooting is not your goal.
Are higher capacity magazines available for the Origin 12?
They are. The Origin 12 uses Fostech's proprietary magazines, which were designed specifically for reliable feeding in this platform. Beyond the included 5 rounder, Fostech sells larger box magazines along with 20 and 30 round drums separately.
What did Fostech change between the original Origin 12 and the Gen 2?
The Gen 2 adds a billet machined carrier, a billet aluminum ambidextrous safety, and a billet aluminum trigger guard for better durability and handling. Fostech also improved and lightened the gas system and fitted the Tomahawk stock. The core action and quick change barrel system carry over from the original.
