Faxon made its name machining some of the best barrels in the AR world, so when they build a complete gun around one of their own tubes, it tends to turn out right. The Sentinel is part of Faxon's Summit Line, which is their way of saying it gets the good stuff: a 7075 billet aluminum receiver set, their G3 Streamline aluminum M-LOK handguard, and a G2 Superfinished AR-10 bolt carrier group that runs slick with less friction than a standard phosphate carrier. Nothing on this gun feels like a parts-bin afterthought.
The 13.9 inch Duty Series barrel is machined entirely in-house at Faxon's facility in the Cincinnati area. It starts as 4150 CMV steel, gets button rifled with a 1:10 twist that handles the full range of common 308 bullet weights, then finished with QPQ nitride inside and out for wear and corrosion resistance that will outlast most owners' ammo budgets. The mid-length gas system is a smart pairing on a short 308, smoothing out the recoil impulse so follow-up shots come back on target faster. Up front, Faxon's MuzzLok ported muzzle brake takes real bite out of the 308's push.
A short-barreled 308 makes a lot of sense for anyone who wants 30 caliber punch in a package that handles more like a carbine. It carries well in a truck or blind, moves quickly in tight spaces, and still delivers the energy that made the 308 Winchester a legend. The 20+1 capacity gives you plenty on tap, and the anodized black finish keeps the look clean and businesslike. Every Sentinel is covered by Faxon's Lifetime Guarantee, which says a lot about how much faith they put in their own machining. If you have been wanting a big-bore AR that feels custom without the custom wait time, this one earns a hard look.
It wears Faxon's own 13.9 inch Duty Series barrel, machined entirely in-house from 4150 CMV steel with a QPQ nitride finish inside and out. The 1:10 twist stabilizes the common 308 bullet weights from light varmint loads up through heavy match ammo. Faxon builds barrels for half the industry, so getting one of their tubes on their own complete gun is a big part of the appeal.
The barrel uses standard 5/8×24 muzzle threads, which is the common pattern for 30 caliber suppressors and muzzle devices. The included MuzzLok ported brake works well on its own for recoil control, and the mid-length gas system helps the short 308 cycle smoothly. As with any 308 AR, check your suppressor manufacturer's guidance on barrel length and mounting before you bolt one on.
It runs on SR-25/DPMS pattern 308 magazines, which are the most widely available AR-10 mags on the market. One 20-round magazine comes with the gun, and aftermarket options from Magpul and others are easy to find in various capacities.
Yes, every Sentinel is backed by Faxon's Lifetime Guarantee, which covers manufacturing and material defects for the original purchaser. Faxon recommends registering your firearm on their website to speed up any service needs down the road.
