The slide has been shortened to 4 inches and thinned substantially to cut weight and improve concealability, and it features Ed Brown's signature 7-top custom cut along with front and rear serrations that are functional without being aggressive. The single-stack Bobtail frame with its stainless base is where this gun really shines for carry. The rounded Bobtail housing tucks naturally under your cover garment and eliminates the sharp corner that tends to print or dig in with standard-frame 1911s. The Snakeskin treatment on the forestrap and Bobtail housing gives you a secure grip without the sharpness of traditional checkering.
On the mechanical side, Ed Brown redesigned several components specifically for 9mm performance. The external extractor, bull barrel, and flat wire recoil spring system all work together to keep this gun running smoothly and consistently. The HD XR orange front night sight is tool-free to swap, and pairs with the smaller Tactical Edge U-notch rear for a fast, clean sight picture. The recessed slide stop and flush barrel with recessed crown round out the custom-grade detailing. Ed Brown's guidance is that 115 and 124 grain loads are the preferred choices for reliable function in the KC9. Heavier 147 grain ammunition can work but may be less consistent depending on the cartridge overall length.
