The DWX Compact started as a collaboration between Dan Wesson and CZ-USA, and the result is one of the more interesting compact pistols on the market right now. The idea was simple: take the crisp, refined single-action fire control group from a Dan Wesson 1911 and marry it to the legendary ergonomics and double-stack capacity of the CZ-75 Compact platform. The combination works exceptionally well. The grip angle and frame geometry feel immediately natural to anyone who has spent time behind a CZ, and the single-action trigger gives it a clean, precise break that most striker-fired compacts simply can't match.
The 4" match-grade barrel is bushing-less, borrowing the same design approach used on CZ's P-10 and P-09 series, which keeps takedown simple and maintenance straightforward. The frame is lightweight aluminum, keeping the overall weight to around 30.8 ounces unloaded, while the slide wears a tough black DLC (Diamond-Like Carbon) finish that holds up to carry wear and corrosion far better than traditional bluing. Front and rear serrations on the slide give you solid purchase for press checks, and the flat-top serrated rib cuts down on glare between the sights. For the trigger, Dan Wesson went with their flat K-style design, a modern take on the classic three-hole 1911 trigger that looks sharp and feels right.
Out of the box, the DWX Compact comes set up with a tritium front night sight and a fixed Battlehook rear, so you have a functional low-light sight picture without adding anything. The slide is machined optic-ready and accepts multiple footprints, so mounting a red dot is a straightforward upgrade when you're ready for it. Dan Wesson also includes a cover plate if you'd prefer to run the pistol iron-only for now. The Picatinny 1913 accessory rail on the dustcover lets you mount a light without any adapters, and that railed dustcover also adds a bit of forward weight that helps tame muzzle rise.
Magazines are CZ-75 Compact compatible, which is a big practical advantage since they're widely available and reasonably priced. The Henning aluminum grips keep the profile slim while adding durability and traction. No MIM parts anywhere in the fire control group, and the interchangeable mag release is a nice touch for left-handed users or anyone who wants to customize their setup. This pistol was originally developed with competition in mind, but it's evolved into a platform that carries and shoots just as well on a daily basis.
The DWX Compact runs CZ-75 Compact double-stack magazines, giving it a 15+1 capacity with flush base pads. This is a real-world advantage because CZ-75 Compact mags are widely available from multiple manufacturers and won't cost you an arm and a leg. Henning aluminum base pads are installed from the factory for added durability.
Yes, it's single-action only, meaning the hammer must be cocked before the first shot. This gives it a clean, consistent trigger pull similar to what you'd get from a Dan Wesson 1911, but in a more compact and higher-capacity package. If you're already comfortable with a cocked-and-locked carry setup, the DWX Compact will feel right at home.
The slide is machined to accept multiple optic footprints, making it compatible with a wide range of popular red dot and reflex sights. Dan Wesson sells additional optic mounting plates through the CZ-USA web store if your specific optic requires one. The pistol also ships with a cover plate so you can run iron sights without an exposed cut.

Takedown is actually quite approachable. It uses a CZ-style slide stop takedown rather than the traditional 1911 link system, and the bushing-less barrel design means there's no barrel bushing to wrestle with during field stripping. Anyone familiar with a CZ P-01, P-07, or P-09 will find the process very familiar.
One of the practical advantages of this platform is that it accepts a wide range of standard 1911 parts in the fire control group, giving gunsmiths and competitive shooters a lot of tuning options without hunting for proprietary components. It also uses CZ-75 Compact grips and is compatible with CZ 75 TS and Czechmate magwells. The interchangeable magazine release is also a nice touch for adapting the ergonomics to your preference.
