There is something satisfying about a big-bore AR that does not take up half the safe. The Daniel Defense DD5 P takes everything people like about the DD5 rifle line, the accuracy, the build quality, the smooth cycling, and shrinks it into a 12.5-inch pistol chambered in 7.62×51 NATO. The heart of the gun is a cold hammer forged, chrome-lined S2W profile barrel with a 1:10 twist, mated to the upper through Daniel Defense's 4-Bolt Connection System. That extra contact between barrel and receiver stiffens the whole front end, which is a big part of why these shoot tighter than most short .308 platforms have any business shooting.
The DD5 P runs a mid-length gas system with a user-adjustable gas block, so you can dial it in whether you are running a can or shooting it bare. Up front, the Daniel Defense Linear Compensator pushes blast and concussion forward instead of back at you, which your ears and your lane neighbors will appreciate on a short 308. The bolt carrier group is superfinished, DLC coated, and fitted with its own buffer to smooth out cycling, and the bolt uses enhanced extractor geometry with dual ejectors for reliable extraction round after round.
Daniel Defense did not skimp on the touch points. You get the DD Enhanced Trigger, a GRIP-N-RIP ambidextrous charging handle with anti-gas features, fully ambi controls, and the company's enhanced pistol grip. The 10.5-inch free-float M-LOK handguard leaves plenty of room for lights, lasers, or a hand stop, and the SB Tactical SBA3 brace is adjustable so you can set it up to fit. It feeds from SR-25 pattern magazines and ships with a 20-rounder, all wearing a black DLC finish. Built in Black Creek, Georgia, this is a compact 7.62 that hits well above its footprint for defensive setups, truck duty, or serious range work.
Yes, and it is built with that in mind. The user-adjustable gas block lets you tune the gas system for consistent cycling and feel whether you are shooting suppressed or unsuppressed. The barrel is threaded 5/8×24, so most .30 caliber cans will thread right on once you remove the linear compensator.
The DD5 P feeds from SR-25 pattern magazines, which is the most common large-frame AR magazine standard. That means Magpul PMAG LR/SR mags, Lancer L7s, and similar options all work. One 20-round magazine comes in the box.
Better than you might expect. The bolt carrier group has an integrated buffer that smooths out the recoil impulse, and the Daniel Defense Linear Compensator directs muzzle blast forward rather than back toward you. Combined with the mid-length gas system, it is a surprisingly manageable short .308.
This is one of the DD5 P's strong suits.
