The Shadow 2 Compact arrived in 2023 because CZ fans had been asking for it for years, and the wait was worth it. CZ took the competition DNA of the full-size Shadow 2, a pistol that has been a dominant force in IPSC Production and Production Optics divisions for years, and shrunk it into a carry-friendly package without watering down what makes that gun so good. The frame is forged from 7075 aluminum alloy, which drops the weight down to around 30 ounces while keeping the same grip geometry, front strap checkering, and deeply undercut trigger guard that CZ shooters know and love. At 7.5 inches long and 5.4 inches tall, it sits in Glock 19 territory dimensionally, but the feel in hand is distinctly CZ.
The trigger is a big part of the story here. It runs the same DA/SA action found on the full-size Shadow 2, with a single-action pull right around 3.3 pounds and a short, clean reset. The double-action first shot comes in around 10.3 pounds and is consistent enough that experienced DA/SA shooters will find it predictable and manageable. The low bore axis, a hallmark of the CZ 75 lineage, keeps muzzle flip minimal and makes fast follow-up shots genuinely easy. Sights are a red fiber optic up front paired with a checkered, blacked-out adjustable rear that provides a clean contrast for quick target acquisition. Common footprints supported through available plates include Trijicon RMR, Leupold DeltaPoint Pro, Aimpoint ACRO, Holosun 407C/507C/508T, and others. One thing to keep in mind is that mounting an optic via this system replaces the rear sight plate, so the factory rear sight comes out when you go to a red dot.
The Compact is nearly an inch shorter in overall length and about 16 ounces lighter, thanks to its forged aluminum frame versus the full-size steel frame. The grip is also slightly shorter, which is why the standard magazine capacity drops to 15 rounds on the Compact versus 17 on the full-size. The trigger system and core ergonomics are essentially the same, and all Shadow 2 Compact slides come optics-ready from the factory, which was not always the case with the original.
It can absolutely be used for carry, and its compact dimensions put it in similar territory to a Glock 19 size-wise.
