There's a good reason the M&P22 Compact has stuck around as a favorite trainer. It's a roughly 87 percent scale version of the full-size M&P, so the grip angle, control layout, and sight picture all feel familiar if you already run a centerfire M&P. Chambered in .22 LR, it turns a pricey range session into an afternoon of cheap plinking, and this FDE version adds a threaded barrel that makes it one of the easiest hosts out there for a rimfire can.
The frame wears a Flat Dark Earth Cerakote finish over the polymer, paired with a black anodized aluminum slide for a two-tone look that stands out from the usual all-black rimfire crowd. The 3.6 inch carbon steel barrel comes threaded from the factory, and Smith & Wesson includes an adapter kit that steps it up to the common 1/2×28 pattern, so most rimfire suppressors spin right on. Underneath, a Picatinny-style rail gives you room for a light or laser. Sights are a white 3-dot setup with a rear that adjusts for windage and elevation, which is a nice touch for dialing in your preferred ammo.
This is a single-action, internal-hammer blowback design, which keeps the trigger pull light and crisp compared to a striker gun.
