It takes everything people love about the 1911, the crisp single action trigger, the natural grip angle, the slim profile, and shrinks it into an officer-size pistol you can carry all day without thinking about it. The aluminum alloy frame wears a matte black Cerakote coating and keeps the whole gun at just 24 ounces unloaded, while the blued carbon steel slide gives it that classic Colt look and the durability to match.
Chambering matters on a 3-inch 1911, and 9mm is the sweet spot here. Recoil stays soft and controllable, follow-up shots come quick, and you get 8+1 on board with a spare mag riding along since Colt ships two 8-round magazines with the gun. The stainless steel barrel runs a 1:14 left-hand twist and holds up well to steady range use, because a carry gun you don't practice with isn't doing you much good.
Colt didn't cut corners on the sighting setup. You get a genuine Novak tritium front sight paired with a Novak Low Mount Carry rear, which means a usable sight picture in low light and a snag-free draw from concealment. Yes. Colt fits this Defender with a genuine Novak tritium front sight and a Novak Low Mount Carry rear. The tritium front glows in low light for fast sight acquisition, and the low-profile rear is contoured to stay snag-free on the draw.
It does. Along with the manual thumb safety and beavertail grip safety, the Defender uses Colt's Series 80 firing pin block, which prevents the firing pin from moving unless the trigger is fully pressed. That adds a solid layer of drop safety for a gun meant to be carried every day.
