Getting 7.62×39 to run right in an AR has tripped up plenty of builders over the years, and most of the trouble traces back to one thing: the magazine. CMMG sidestepped the whole issue with the Banshee Mk47. Instead of forcing a tapered Soviet cartridge into a straight AR magwell, the Mk47 receivers accept AK-pattern magazines, the same mags that were designed around this round from day one. The result is an AR-style pistol that feeds like an AK and handles like the platform you already know.
The Mk47 is CMMG's mid-size platform, built on billet 7075-T6 aluminum receivers that are beefier than a standard AR-15 without ballooning into AR-10 territory. Inside, CMMG's PowerBolt technology adds durability where the harder-recoiling 7.62×39 cartridge demands it. The direct impingement gas system runs a carbine-length port, and the whole package weighs in at a manageable 6.1 pounds.
This is the longest barrel offered in the Banshee series, and it's a smart match for the cartridge. The 12.5 inch 4140CM barrel wears a salt bath nitride finish, spins bullets on a 1:10 twist, and comes threaded 5/8×24 with a CMMG Zeroed linear compensator installed to push blast forward and away from you. The EML11 M-LOK handguard gives you full-length slots on the sides and bottom plus M-LOK real estate between the top rail sections, so lights, lasers, and hand stops all have a home.
CMMG didn't skimp on the small stuff. You get a Zeroed ambidextrous charging handle, Zeroed pistol grip, Zeroed drop-in trigger, and a Zeroed ambi safety selector with 60 and 90 degree throw options, all wrapped in a Cerakote Armor Black finish. A 30-round Magpul PMAG ships in the box, and CMMG backs the whole thing with their Lifetime Quality Guarantee. For steel-case plinking, hog duty, or a truck gun that hits harder than 5.56, this one checks a lot of boxes.
It takes AK-pattern magazines, and that's by design. AK mags were built around the tapered 7.62×39 cartridge, so they feed it far more reliably than modified AR-15 magazines. The Mk47 lower has a dedicated AK-style magwell, and it ships with a 30-round Magpul PMAG made for the AK platform.
Not quite. The Mk47 is CMMG's mid-size platform, sitting between the AR-15 and AR-10 with larger billet 7075-T6 receivers and PowerBolt technology to handle the 7.62×39 round. Controls and ergonomics feel like an AR, but the upper and lower are Mk47-specific and won't interchange with standard AR-15 receiver sets.
The barrel is threaded 5/8×24, which is a common thread pitch for 30-caliber suppressors and muzzle devices. From the factory it comes with a CMMG Zeroed linear compensator installed, which directs blast and noise downrange. Swap that off and you can mount most .30 cal cans or brakes that match the thread pitch.
The 12.5 inch version is the longest barrel in the Banshee series, and it gets noticeably more velocity out of 7.62×39 than the stubby 8 inch model. That extra speed matters with this cartridge, especially for hunting or shooting past 100 yards. You still get a compact overall package at 28.7 inches and 6.1 pounds.
