There are AK pistols, and then there are Arsenal AK pistols. The SAM7K-44, nicknamed the Genesis, is built in Bulgaria the old-school way: each receiver starts as a hot-die hammer forged blank and spends over five and a half hours on the mill before assembly even begins. That forging process produces finer-grained, stronger steel than receivers cut from bar stock, which is a big part of why Arsenal guns have the reputation they do. Pick one up next to a budget AK pistol and you can feel the difference immediately.
The 8.5 inch cold hammer-forged barrel comes from Arsenal's Bulgarian factory, built on Steyr manufacturing technology with a hard-chrome plated bore and chamber for long service life and easy cleanup after corrosive surplus ammo. Up front you get a threaded front sight block in the standard Krink configuration with 24×1.5mm right-hand threads, so mounting a muzzle brake, flash hider, or suppressor mount is simple. Out back, a Picatinny rail on the rear of the receiver handles attachments, and there's a QD sling swivel plus a side scope rail for optics. The bolt, bolt carrier, and double-hook trigger are all Bulgarian hot-die hammer forged as well, and every part is 100 percent new production.
Chambered in 7.62x39mm, this pistol ships with one 5-round magazine but accepts any mil-spec AK magazine, so 10, 30, and 40-round mags drop right in. The ambidextrous safety lever is a nice touch for left-handed use, and the peep rear sight gives you a quicker sight picture than the standard AK notch. At around 5.9 pounds, it carries the heft you'd expect from a milled gun, and that weight helps tame the 7.62×39 in a short package. This is the kind of AK pistol people hold onto. It shoots great, it's built to last decades, and Arsenal's milled guns have a habit of becoming collectible.
Yes. While it ships with a single 5-round magazine, the SAM7K-44 accepts any mil-spec AK magazine, including 10, 30, and 40-round options. Arsenal's own Circle 10 polymer mags are a popular pairing and run great in this pistol.
That's one of the main draws of this configuration. The front sight block is threaded in the standard Krink pattern with 24×1.5mm right-hand threads, so muzzle brakes, flash hiders, and suppressor mounts designed for that spec thread right on without any gunsmithing.
The Picatinny rail on the rear of the receiver is designed for rear attachments, and it comes from the factory this way so no modification is needed. There's also a QD sling swivel back there and a side-mounted scope rail for adding optics.
It's milled, and not from bar stock like most milled AKs. Each receiver is machined from a hot-die hammer forged blank at Arsenal's factory in Bulgaria, a process that takes over 5.5 hours of milling per receiver and produces stronger, finer-grained steel. It's a big reason these hold value so well.
