Description

The name says it all. BFT stands for Bulged Forged Trunnion, and that is the heart of this rifle. Century Arms took the most common failure point on budget AKs and overbuilt it, forging the front trunnion from 4140 steel with design cues borrowed from the famously stout VEPR pattern. Pair that with a 1.5mm heat-treated stamped 4130 receiver, noticeably thicker than the typical 1mm stamping, and a carburized 4140 bolt, and you have an AK built to soak up steel-case ammo by the crate for years.

What Sets the BFT47 Core Apart

The 16.5 inch chrome-moly 4150 barrel wears a 1:10 twist and a durable manganese phosphate finish, capped with a classic slant compensator on 14×1 left-hand threads, so swapping muzzle devices down the road is simple. Century also listened to what AK fans have been asking for: an enhanced safety lever with a bolt hold-open notch, an enlarged mag release, a bayonet lug, and a cleaning rod under the barrel. The side-mounted scope rail means you can run a red dot or scope without giving up the adjustable iron sights, which stay in the traditional AK ladder-and-post arrangement.

American Maple, American Made

This is a fully American-made rifle, no surplus parts, and the American maple furniture gives it that light, blonde look that stands out on a rack full of dark laminate. It weighs in around 8 pounds, which adds up to soft shooting with 7.62×39 and a solid, planted feel offhand. The RAK-1 trigger group is a genuine bright spot too, breaking clean in the sub-5-pound range, which is better than most stock AK triggers by a comfortable margin.

Feeding the BFT47 Core

It ships with one 30-round magazine and runs standard AK-pattern mags, so steel surplus mags, polymer options, and drums are all on the table. Chambered in 7.62×39, it digests the full spread of commercially available ammo, from cheap steel-case range fodder to soft points for the deer woods. For anyone who wants a duty-grade AK without paying boutique prices, this one earns its spot as Century's flagship.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does BFT stand for on the BFT47 Core?

BFT stands for Bulged Forged Trunnion. The front trunnion is forged from 4140 steel with a bulged profile inspired by the VEPR design, and it sits in a thicker 1.5mm stamped receiver. That combination addresses the most common wear point on stamped AKs and is the main reason this rifle has a reputation for durability.

Is the Century Arms BFT47 Core made in the USA?

Yes, the BFT47 Core is built entirely in the United States with all-new production parts, no surplus components. That gives Century Arms hands-on quality control through the whole build process, and the rifle carries a one-year factory warranty.

Can I mount an optic on the BFT47 Core?

You can. The rifle comes with a side rail on the left of the receiver, the standard AK approach to optics mounting. Add any AK side-mount base and you can run a red dot or scope while keeping the adjustable iron sights ready to go underneath.

Will the BFT47 Core run standard AK magazines?

Yes, it accepts standard AK-pattern magazines, so surplus steel mags, polymer mags, and drums all work. It ships with one 30-round magazine, and the enlarged mag release makes swaps a little quicker than on a bone-stock AK.
