There is a reason you see so many Maxus autoloaders at sporting clays courses. Browning built the Maxus II around its Power Drive gas system, which bleeds off gases to soak up recoil and keeps the action cycling cleanly with everything from light target loads to heavy 3 inch hunting shells. Follow-up shots come quick too, thanks to the Lightning Trigger, which Browning rates with lock times up to 24 percent faster than other autoloaders. On a crossing pair, that crisp, short trigger makes a real difference.
The Sporting Carbon Fiber trim wraps the barrel, receiver, stock, and forend in a hydrographic carbon fiber dip that looks sharp and shrugs off weather better than a fancy walnut blank ever will. The 30 inch vent rib barrel gives you the longer sighting plane target guns benefit from, topped with a HiViz TriComp fiber optic front sight that grabs your eye in flat light. Browning ships this one with five extended Invector-Plus Midas grade choke tubes, Full through Skeet, so you can go from 5 stand to the dove field without buying anything extra. The bolt, bolt slide, shell carrier, and cocking handle wear nickel Teflon for slick operation and easy cleanup, and the chrome-lined chamber and bore add another layer of corrosion resistance.
Between the thick Inflex 2 recoil pad, the SoftFlex cheek piece, and the gas system doing its job, this gun stays pleasant well past the hundred round mark. Overmolded grip panels on the stock and forend keep your hands planted when things get sweaty, and the trimmable synthetic stock lets you fine tune length of pull for a proper fit. At around 7 pounds 3 ounces with a 51 inch overall length, it carries enough weight up front to smooth out your swing without feeling like a boat anchor.

Yes, that is one of the strong suits of the Power Drive gas system. It was tuned to run across a wide spread of factory ammunition, from light 2-3/4 inch target loads up to 3 inch hunting shells. Like any new gas gun, give it a couple hundred rounds to break in and keep the gas system reasonably clean and it will run happily on club loads.
It pulls double duty just fine. The 3 inch chamber handles common waterfowl and upland loads, the carbon fiber dip finish stands up to weather far better than wood, and the included choke assortment covers everything from close flushing birds to longer passing shots. Plenty of folks run this exact gun at the club all summer and in the blind all fall.
It ships with five extended Invector-Plus Midas grade tubes: Full, Improved Modified, Modified, Improved Cylinder, and Skeet. The barrel uses Browning's Invector-Plus system, which is widely supported, so aftermarket and factory tubes are easy to find if you want to add specialty constrictions later.
The synthetic stock is designed to be trimmable, so you can shorten the length of pull from the standard 14-1/4 inches to fit smaller framed users or heavy winter clothing. Combined with the SoftFlex cheek pad and thick Inflex 2 recoil pad, it is one of the easier autoloaders to get fitting right without a trip to a stock fitter.
