There is something special about a .410 over/under, and Browning went all in on this one. The Citori White Lightning wears a steel receiver dressed in broad-coverage scroll engraving and finished in silver nitride, which gives it that classic bi-tone contrast against the polished blued 28-inch barrels. The wood is where it really shines though. Browning fits this model with Grade III/IV walnut in a gloss oil finish, and the figure on these stocks tends to turn heads at the club. A gold-plated trigger and gold Buck Mark on the trigger guard round out the details.
The Lightning name refers to the rounded profile of the stock and forearm. The round knob grip puts your hand in the same spot every time you mount the gun, which pays off when a grouse flushes hard or a crossing target catches you off guard. The forearm matches that rounded shape, so the whole gun feels smooth and natural in the hands. At roughly 7 pounds with a 45-inch overall length, it carries easily through a long day in the field and still has enough weight up front to keep your swing steady on clays.
Underneath the pretty exterior is the same action that earned the Citori its reputation. The full-width tapered locking bolt and full-length hinge pin are designed to seat deeper as the gun breaks in, which is why folks say a Citori wears in rather than out. Chrome-plated 3-inch chambers shrug off corrosion, automatic ejectors kick out spent hulls and lift unfired shells for easy removal, and the tang-mounted safety doubles as the barrel selector. An Inflex recoil pad caps the stock, though recoil is hardly a concern with the .410.
Browning includes three extended black Midas Grade choke tubes in Full, Modified, and Improved Cylinder, so you are covered from tight patterns on late-season birds to open spreads for skeet. An ivory front bead and mid-bead handle the sighting. Whether this is your dedicated small-bore quail gun or the .410 that finishes off your gauge set, it is a Citori you will be proud to pull out of the case.
This model ships with three extended black Midas Grade choke tubes in Full, Modified, and Improved Cylinder, plus a wrench. Since the .410 version uses Browning's Standard Invector system, make sure any additional tubes you buy are Standard Invector, not Invector-Plus.
It handles both well. The 28-inch barrels give it a smooth, steady swing for clays, while the roughly 7-pound weight and rounded Lightning-style stock make it comfortable to carry and quick to mount in the field. Plenty of folks use the .410 for skeet and sub-gauge events, and the included choke selection covers everything from tight field patterns to open target work.
The main difference is the receiver finish. The White Lightning wears a silver nitride finish with broad scroll engraving instead of the traditional blued receiver, giving it that classic two-tone look against the blued barrels. It also gets upgraded Grade III/IV walnut, so it dresses up noticeably compared to the standard Lightning.
It has automatic ejectors. Fired hulls get kicked clear when you open the action, while unfired shells are gently lifted so you can pluck them out by hand. Combined with the single selective trigger and tang safety with barrel selector, it runs like you would expect from a Citori.
