Description

There is something addictive about running a sporting clays course with a 28 gauge, and the Citori 725 Sporting makes a strong case for leaving the 12 at home. Browning builds this gun on a scaled-down receiver made specifically for the smaller shell, not a 12 gauge frame with skinny barrels bolted on. The result is a gun that comes in around 7.6 pounds with real balance between the hands, while the 32 inch barrels and low-post floating rib keep your swing steady and your follow-through smooth on long crossers.

What Sets the Citori 725 Sporting 28 Gauge Apart

The 725 line descends from John Browning's B25 Superposed, updated with a low-profile receiver that puts your hands closer to the bore line for better feel and control. Lockup comes from the same full-width hinge pin and tapered locking bolt that has kept Citoris running for generations, and the chrome-plated chambers clean up easy after high-volume days. The FireLite mechanical trigger breaks clean with a light pull and fires the second barrel whether or not the first shell goes off, which matters when a bird is hanging in the air. Browning's Triple Trigger System lets you adjust trigger position and swap between three included shoes to dial in your length of pull. Newer production like this one also brings a 3 inch chamber to the 28 gauge, which opens the door to heavier loads if you want to carry it into the field.

Wood, Sights, and Chokes on the 725 Sporting

The Grade III/IV walnut wears a gloss oil finish with sharp checkering, a close radius grip, and a palm swell, all set against a silver nitride receiver with gold-accented engraving. A HiViz Pro-Comp fiber optic front sight and ivory mid bead give you a clean, fast sight picture, and the Inflex II pad soaks up what little recoil a 28 gauge produces. Five extended Standard Invector chokes come in the box, covering everything from skeet distances to the back fence, so you are ready for whatever the course throws at you.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are the barrels ported on the Citori 725 Sporting 28 gauge?

No. Browning ports the barrels on the 12 and 20 gauge versions of the 725 Sporting, but the 28 gauge and .410 models are non-ported. With the light recoil of the 28 gauge shell and the Inflex II pad on the stock, porting really isn't missed on this one.

Does this 725 Sporting have a 3 inch chamber?

Yes, this model (013531011) is the newer production run with a 3 inch chamber, where earlier 28 gauge 725s were limited to 2.75 inch shells. That gives you the option to run heavier 3 inch loads if you take it into the dove field or on an upland hunt.

Is the 28 gauge built on a smaller receiver or a 12 gauge frame?

Browning builds its sub-gauge 725s on a true scaled-down receiver rather than hanging small-bore barrels on a 12 gauge frame. That keeps the weight around 7.6 pounds and gives the gun the lively, between-the-hands balance that makes sub-gauge clays guns so much fun to swing.

What choke system does the Browning Citori 725 Sporting 28 gauge use?

The 28 gauge uses Browning's Standard Invector system, and this Sporting model ships with five extended tubes: Full, Improved Modified, Modified, Improved Cylinder, and Skeet. The extended design lets you swap chokes quickly between stations without digging out a wrench. Note that the Invector-DS chokes used on the 12 and 20 gauge models will not interchange with this gun.
