There's a reason the 28 gauge keeps winning people over on the sporting clays course, and the Citori 725 Sporting is one of the best ways to experience it. Browning took the low-profile 725 receiver, which sits noticeably lower than a standard Citori, and built it around 30 inch barrels chambered for 3 inch 28 gauge shells. That lower receiver gets your eye closer to the bore line, so the gun points more naturally and breaks targets feel less like work. The full-width hinge pin and tapered locking bolt are the same rugged setup that has kept Citoris locking up tight through generations of hard use.
The FireLite mechanical trigger is the standout here. It's crisp with a lighter pull than older Citori triggers, and since it's mechanical rather than inertia driven, the second barrel fires no matter how light the first load was. The Triple Trigger System lets you swap between three trigger shoes to dial in your finger-to-trigger length of pull. Up top, a low-post floating rib carries a HiViz Pro Comp fiber optic front sight with an ivory mid bead, giving you a clean, bright sight picture on fast crossers and long incomers alike.
Browning didn't skimp on the wood. The Grade III/IV black walnut stock wears a gloss oil finish with sharp checkering, a close radius grip, and a palm swell that settles your hand in the same spot every mount. The silver nitride receiver carries gold-enhanced engraving over polished blued barrels, so it looks the part at the club without being flashy for the sake of it. An Inflex recoil pad takes the edge off long practice sessions, though in 28 gauge there's not much edge to take off.
Five extended choke tubes come in the box, covering everything from skeet distances out to full choke work, so you're set for the course the day it comes home. For anyone who has been eyeing a sub-gauge over and under that's built to compete, this one is tough to beat.
It ships with five extended choke tubes: Full, Improved Modified, Modified, Improved Cylinder, and Skeet, plus a T-wrench for swapping them. That range covers everything from close skeet stations to long sporting clays presentations right out of the box.
The 725 uses Browning's FireLite mechanical trigger, which is a big deal for a competition gun. Unlike inertia triggers, it doesn't rely on recoil to set the second barrel, so light 28 gauge loads will never leave you with a dead second trigger pull. It also breaks crisper and lighter than the triggers on older Citori models.
Browning added the 3 inch chamber to its newer 28 gauge Citori 725 models to take advantage of the longer 28 gauge shells now on the market. You can still shoot standard 2 3/4 inch target loads all day, but the longer chamber gives you flexibility to run heavier 3 inch payloads if you take it after birds.
This configuration is built for the clays course. The 30 inch barrels, low-post floating rib, HiViz Pro Comp front sight, and palm swell grip are all competition-oriented features that smooth out your swing and sight picture. That said, plenty of folks carry it in the field too, since the 28 gauge frame keeps it lively in the hands.
