The Browning Buck Mark has been one of the most respected rimfire pistols on the market since 1985, and the Field Target Micro is one of the more versatile configurations in the lineup. The 4.4" steel bull barrel keeps the overall package compact and well-balanced while still adding the weight up front that helps settle the gun during rapid fire and precision work. The barrel comes threaded 1/2×28 from the factory, so it's suppressor-ready with a thread protector installed — just unscrew it and you're good to go. The frame is CNC-machined from 7075-T6 aircraft-grade aluminum billet and anodized matte black, which keeps the weight manageable while giving you a platform that isn't going anywhere under heavy use.
The barrel chamber is hand-reamed at the factory and the muzzle features a recessed target crown, which are both details that matter for consistent accuracy in a rimfire. The sights are frame-mounted rather than slide-mounted, meaning they don't move when the action cycles — a big deal when you're trying to hold a tight zero. Browning's Pro-Target adjustable rear sight gives you 16 clicks per revolution for precise zeroing, more than the industry-standard 12. The full-length Picatinny rail on top means you can drop on a red dot or compact scope without any adapter plates. This pistol shoots respectably from the irons, but it really comes alive with a dot mounted on it.
The FDE composite UFX grips feature contrasting black rubber overmolding and are cut to fit a wide range of hand sizes comfortably. Controls are laid out in a familiar 1911-style pattern — manual thumb safety on the left, slide lock, and a magazine release positioned just behind the trigger guard for quick, positive drops. There is a magazine safety built in, so the pistol won't fire without a magazine seated. Yes. The 4.4" bull barrel is threaded 1/2×28 TPI at the muzzle and ships with a thread protector installed. Just remove the protector and you can attach a compatible suppressor or other 1/2×28-threaded muzzle device directly. No modifications needed.
Absolutely. The pistol has a full-length Picatinny rail integrated into the frame, running from the front sight to the rear sight. Compact red dots and reflex sights mount directly without any adapter. Because the sights are frame-mounted and not slide-mounted, your zero stays put when the action cycles.
The shorter barrel makes the Micro noticeably more compact and easier to carry or maneuver in tight spaces. You give up a bit of sight radius compared to the longer models, but the bull-barrel profile still keeps the balance point forward enough to help settle the gun during shooting. Many people find the 4" format shoots well with a red dot to compensate for the shorter sight radius.
The Buck Mark is known to run well on a wide variety of standard and high-velocity .22 LR ammunition after a proper break-in period — typically a few hundred rounds. CCI Mini-Mag and CCI Standard Velocity are popular choices and tend to feed very consistently. Like most semi-auto rimfires, it may be less reliable with certain bulk or ultra-low-power loads.
Yes, Browning specifically advises against dry-firing any Buck Mark pistol. Because rimfire cartridges are struck at the rim, dry-firing without a cartridge seated can cause the firing pin to peen the chamber edge over time and put undue stress on the firing pin itself. Use snap caps if you want to practice trigger pulls at home.
The UFX (Ultragrip FX) grips are a composite panel with black rubber overmolding — they give you a secure, grippy feel without being aggressive on the hand. The FDE color with black rubber contrast looks sharp and the ambidextrous design works equally well for left- and right-handed shooters. They run a bit slimmer than some aftermarket wood grip options, so people with larger hands sometimes prefer to swap them out down the road.
